disappointment with kettlebells

Hi,

Does anyone else out there find that kettlebells just don't work for them? I am working with Dasha's Scourcher Series and find that my legs and core aren't worked the way I expected them to be.

I always had such good results with Cathe (all those squats, lunges and step-ups), but needed a change.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with kettlebells? Thanks.

yes- I tried them again recently and just do not love it . Boring! Too hard on my knees and the back of my forearms and too many squats and just boring to me.

Have you tried a more "traditional" kettlebell workout? Maybe with a workout from Art of Strength or Lauren Brooks and heavier kettlebells you'd feel different.

I agreed with AsSweetAsSugar... Those are some good choices. I also feel that Zuzka Beginner's series is worth a shot (it's only $15). I feel her beginner series is a really good traditional, (for the most part) KBell workouts. I use a heavier bell and I really feel it all over, plus she also does some limited body weight work in these. I absolutely feel the OnnitAcademy Kettlebell workouts. For me I find that traditional Kbell workouts give me better results (more strength and muscle definition) than non-traditional Kbell workouts. Whereas KBKB, really helped with weight loss and really lean me out. That being said, not everything works for everybody, I'll keep doing Cathe or something similar to Cathe, since you like the effectiveness of these type of workouts

Since Kettlebell Kickboxing moves too fast to use heavy kettlebells, you won't get the conditioning and strength building that you would from other types of kettlebell workouts. Lauren Brooks is a great place to start and AOS is something to work up to. Another one to try is Kettlebell Bombshell; the production values aren't good, but the workouts (3 on one disk) are tough. If you heavy up, you will really work your legs and core.

Yes I have tried them in the past and didn't like them at all. Tried a few different instructors and realized they were just not for me. I agree-- boring.

+1. If you want to try one more time before giving up on kettlebells, try one of the Onnit Academy free online workouts.

Second Onnit! Yes, they have been putting out some great workouts for free and I like they are not follow along, but you can watch the video to see the exact moves, then do the workout on your own.

I agree with everything else from above too, Scorcher is more fat loss, metabolic, cardio type work with kettlebells, but I would not consider it a strength program at all.

My favorite KB dvds are definitely the Art of Strength ones. I also like Mark DeGrasse, and one day I will revisit my Lauren Brooks, I didn't like her dvd when I did it years ago, but I have a feeling I would like it more now.

Raising hand! I have tried several times with different instructors and just can't get into it. It's not that I don't feel I get a good workout, or that I dislike the instructor, it's something I can't put my finger on. I just don't click with them! Different strokes and all that.

I know many people here do and have gotten results that met and exceeded expectation and the temptation is strong to defend when it's a beloved training method , but I don't know that the OP was looking for people trying to convince her that she is wrong? Maybe she was looking for some commiseration since it's hard to post "against the tide."
