Defective by Design - digital content access
I wanted to pass along a very interesting and on-topic website:
http://www.defectivebydesign.org/what_is_drm In short - although I encourage you to read the page yourself - it is about attempting to ensure that the companies who control our digital content don't write their own "laws" when it comes to fair use and copyright laws and deny us access and fair use of legally obtained content. For example, should Amazon have the right and/or ability to yank any e-book they like from our Kindle reader? They do and they have (with Orwell's 1984, funnily enough) because the publishers decided they didn't like people having it in ebook form (http://boingboing.net/2009/07/17/ama...-purchase.html). I thought VFers would be intrigued, since so many workouts are now being offered in digital format. I'm curious to hear members' opinions about this, since the Defective by Design people are obviously presenting only one side of the issue :-) Kris |
