What’s going on in DVD land vs downloading

I did search for something like this but couldn’t get what I am looking for.

So, please tell me or explain why a lot of our old loves are now doing away with DVDs?

Is it so we can’t trade them?

Is it because they get more money for the download?

Is it just wanting to keep up with technology?

Is it they just want to be able to make their workouts more portable?

Why didn’t they go blue ray? Seems like they skipped this option.
Is it greed?

Please tell me what’s up with having to purchase monthly subscriptions to see new footage?,,

Is it in case of fire you have your exercise vids on your phone and you don’t have to worry about melting? Lol

It's more expensive to make the dvds especially with so few people buying the, Many people don't want that much clutter anymore. It is also so easy to take technology with you. At the gym, lots of people use their phones (sometime tablets) for fitness apps and videos.

It is too easy to give away some of the digital content or even sell it multiple times over unlike trading/selling one dvd to one person. That is violating intellectual property laws and is too much of a risk for VF to allow it.

There is also so much free quality content available that I don't think dvds are practical anymore.

So there will be an end to video fitness?

You said

So you can give downloaded programs? And sell it on eBay? Or to someone?

DVDs are on the way out. It's a combo of what people want and cost of production of dvds. The trend is minimalistic, uncluttered, portable, and a green footprint.

Does anyone even rent movies any more? Last time my daughter and I rented Redbox, the movie was so scratched we couldn't view and ended up streaming at home.

I have loved my dvds and have been resistant to streaming...I understand wanting something physical to own. Streaming is so darn convenient though...just a click away.

There's so much fun content available for free, also.

I don't think you can give away downloaded content.

Sure do still like my dvd. I don’t think Hollywood will stop making movies, so there is still an audience for dvds.

How else will be able to see King Kong?

I stopped renting because of amazon prime and the Firesticks, and Netflix. Can you still get hard copies from Netflix?

I also stopped because the price went from fun, .99 to what ever it is now, and the late fees, worse than taking a book out of the library.

I think people will still be able to rent videos from the library. Probably not have the library of dvds like collage.

I guess I'm old school, but I generally prefer something in my hand.
Streaming is nice, and i do stream some stuff, but if the internet is out, I can't stream. But I can still use a dvd in my collection.

And if the company goes under, no longer able to stream that workout. But I can still use a dvd in my collection.

I'm old I guess.

No, I’m old also. And yes I still have a land line

With streaming does that mean you go to the website to see it

Can you look at it anytime you want?

Streaming and downloading or downloaded are different?

HERE’S a link that explains streaming.

HERE’S one on the difference between streaming and downloads.

Short story?

Streaming should allow you to watch the content over and over and totally when you want to unless your internet goes out or the streaming site goes down.

Download live on your device so no internet needed to play them but you need a good internet speed to download them.

The links were more detailed but yes, basically the same info. One thing I didn’t mention is that you own downloads and streams you purchase (like Raviana steams) but downloads can be lost (guilty of that) and if a company ceases to exist or decides that streams aren’t cost efficient you lose your purchased content.
