Does anyone still do fairly heavy lower body workouts?

The trend seems to be leaning away from this. I see it on this Board with the increase in barre workouts for example. Does anyone still do lower body workouts using real weights? If you do so, what do you think it does for your lower body?

I do squats with either 10 or 12 pound weights (in each hand), lunges with 5 pound weights. I do lighter for lunges to prevent the bulking up. Squats are mostly to sculpt my butt, so I'm ok with the heavier weights. I also use 10 or 12 pound weights for dead lifts. I haven't noticed bulking on my legs using these weights.

I do. I use anywhere from 15-40lbs for legs. This gives me great tightness and tone. I'm opposite then most women in that my upper body bulks with weights so I do bodyweight work for upper and weighted lower body work.

I do but generally my heaviest weights are a pair of 12 pounders. I will use my 15's on occasion but only for a really short set, for example the heavy set in Cathe's Pyramids.

I am more comfortable with 12's, even when I was in better shape years ago, 15's were pretty taxing. I must say that I use my 10's for lower body stuff too pretty often, that's usually my moderate-heavy weight.

I do also do quite a bit of floor work though now as well, I have added lots of Margaret Richard in the past year and would like to incorporate a little more pilates along with some standing work, just for an even balance.

I'm doing a round of Body Beast and using weights ranging from 12 lbs. - 40 lbs. I think running/or cardio counters the heavy weights because I don't bulk in the legs if I do some cardio and not all just lifting weights.

I will bulk up if I do just weights and no cardio.

I do one really heavy low rep leg day (on my own) and one lighter higher rep day (Cathe). I will leg press 200lbs as an example and no bulk. The only way I ever look "bulky" is if my body fat is a bit higher that it should be over my muscles.

Yes! I try to do at least one somewhat heavy leg day a week. I'm short (5'2") but I've had nothing but positive results from heavy lifting for lower body. It makes my legs leaner and my butt looks firmer and more rounded. Going light for too long just makes my legs and butt flabby.

I'll squat and lunge anywhere from 30-60 lbs total but can go as high as 90lbs total with a combination of dumbbells and my weight vest. I have done sumo deadlifts with 100 lbs.

Yes! I still lift heavy for lower body, because at my age, it's more important to be able to climb stairs or get off the john than wear a string bikini. People with more muscle also live longer.
