Can You Do 'Great Weighted Workout' in Smaller Chunks?

I've been interested in Karen Voight's 'Great Weighted Workout' for some time but I think the time factor is stopping me taking the plunge. Is it easy to split this one up in to sections? I see that it doesn't have premixes.

Anyone do it in smaller chunks? Is it possible?

Hi Adam,

I do not know if the DVD is chaptered (I only have it on good old VHS) but the workout itself can be easily broken up into smaller chunks. The warmup/standing legs/upper body is about 35 minutes long, the lower body floor work is about 30 minutes long, and the ab work clocks in at 15 minutes. It's an awesome workout, all three sections are great.

HTH!

According to VF reviews, the DVD does seem to be chaptered.

I have this DVD (too scared to actually try it, though!) and yes, it's chaptered well enough so that you can split it.

warm up: 6 1/2 minutes
lower body w/dumbbells 6 1/2 minutes
upper body w/dumbbells 20 min
lower body w/ankle wts 30 min
abs w/small ball 15 min
stretch 6 min

I've only done the warmup and the lower body work - all chaptered separately. Even the lower body work is chaptered by standing and floor. I've never done the upper body work and I'll probably do my own warmup next time (whenever that may be). It's a little dated and the warmup is just a little too dated (although effective) for me to enjoy.

No problems breaking it up at all, to answer your question

Karen goes at lightning speed in this one. I think it's best to do it in chunks at first until you build up the endurance (or have the time) to do the whole thing.

GWW is definitely chaptered.

Dated outfits or not, it is a darn tough workout and you can get it really cheap on Amazon. I paid less than 10 bucks for mine.

One thing I really marvel at is Karen's uncanny ability to remind you about bad form just when you are doing the exercise with bad form--when you are really fatigued and your form starts to go, she'll pipe up with a form pointer.

She gets completely drenched by the end. It's tough for her, too.

Muscle Guy--sorry if this is something you already know about, but have you checked out any of Margaret Richard's workouts? She also does high rep/low weight workouts a la GWW and they're killer. I highly recommend 'Sculpture'. Her DVDs are quite expensive but she always has sales. If you aren't already familiar with her, you might check her out if you like high rep/low weight.

Smaller chunks is the ONLY way I will do GWW. It is a good workout, but it is just too much for me to face in one workout. As with you, the dread factor wins out.
