Barefoot & On the Mat 5/31-6/6: Don't Judge Yourself By Your Past....

Don't judge yourself by your past. You don't live there anymore.

Author Unknown (at least by me!)

Greetings and welcome to the weekly Barefoot & On The Mat check-in thread! This is a long-running VF check-in. We're a cozy, friendly group who enjoy a wide variety of workouts, but we have a special fondness for those traditionally done without shoes. If you enjoy yoga, Pilates, barre, qi gong, Classical Stretch/Essentrics, Ellen Barrett, etc. (or even if you simply prefer doing traditional workouts without shoes!) you'll feel right at home.

Please feel free to join in. We love hearing from new, returning and guest Mat Mavens. Our welcome mat is always out!

Hello again!

Once again I was searching for a vaguely-related seasonal quote, and ran across one that really spoke to me -- especially since I am going through a lot of personal stuff right now.

I'm just back from either a long MAW or a shortish LAW. My grandniece has already asked me about going for a walk with her later and I hope to do another Season 13 Classical Stretch episode this afternoon.

Waving to all -- be back later!

Hi Sandra! Thanks for getting us started.

I was MIA yesterday b/c I had a bad migraine for most of the day; luckily, I am feeling better today. Someone (Anny?) asked about my online yoga training. I was holding off on that until I was done with work, so hopefully I'll get started this coming week.

This week I did mostly Barre3 (via the "live" Facebook classes) with some yoga/other thrown in.

Monday
Barre3 (FB) - Seattle/Ballard
Sleepy Santosha (YT) - 45min Restorative Yoga for a Strong Immune System

Tuesday
Barre3 (FB) - New Orleans
30MTF Build & Burn - Stronger Upper segment

Wednesday
Barre3 (FB) - Eugene with Jessica
Yoga with Tim (YT) - Total Body Stretch & Roll Out Routine

Thursday
Barre3 (FB) - Austin Circle C with Aurora
Holly Dolke (YT) - Tone Your arms
TA Method (YT) - Sculpted Arms & Shoulders
Ekhart Yoga (YT) - Live, Finding Reslience Together

Friday
Barre3 (FB) - Druid Hills with Jasmine
Yoga with Melissa (YT) - 1-hour Restorative Yoga for Self Regulation

Saturday
Live Zoom yoga class, Grassroots Yoga with Molly

Sunday
Barre3 (FB) - Portland
Oli Wells (YT) - Free the Neck
Yoga Ranger (YT) - Yin Yoga for Headaches & Tension Relief

Body Electric Perfect 10 (Volume 1 Program A: Chest, Biceps, Triceps; Vol 1. Program B: Calves, Quads, Deltoids, Back; Volume 2 Program A: Inner Thigh and Cool Down)

It's been several years since I've done Margaret's Perfect 10 so it was nice to revisit that today.

It distresses me to see rioting/looting in Los Angeles and across the country. I have no problem with peaceful protests but it's upsetting to see people act like hoodlums.

Sandra, thank you for starting our week. It's sweet that your grandniece asks to go on walks with you--I like hearing that.

Beth, I'm sorry about the migraine. I'm glad you're feeling better today.

Hi again!

Today's Workout: Classical Stretch episode 1311. As previously noted I got in a substantial Aimless Walk earlier.

Still haven't heard from my grandniece about a walk this afternoon. I have a suspicion she and her mom might be visiting a friend who has a pool. That's fine, especially since the pools in my complex are still unable to open due to Covid (they are classified as "public" pools and therefore fall under the same restrictions).

Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!

Today was an afternoon of Gardenasana. I suspect I am going to be sore tomorrow, as I was primarily weeding - digging and prying gnarly weeds out of the dirt for hours! I was surrounded by bees and butterflies. I went into a retail establishment today for the first time since early/mid-March. DH and I went to Home Depot to pick up a couple of things DH had ordered on-line, and of course I went to the garden center and picked up some cheery annuals. We went right after they opened, so there weren't many people in there. I didn't meet my self-care goals this week as I worked some really long hours. And I didn't sleep worth a flip several nights. I'm planning to hit the sack early tonight.

Linda - I'm so sorry to hear about your SO's father.

Sandra - I really like this week's quote! Good for you for taking some "me time" off.

Carolyn - I'm so sorry to hear about your tooth. I still haven't done anything about mine.....I had put myself on the cancellation list and I'm wondering if either they never have cancellations and/or they forgot about me since it's been close to 8 months. And who knows that's happening with everyone's appointments since the dentists have been closed due to COVID-19. Fortunately I'm not in pain, but I will need to deal with this and will likely have to look for another practitioner.

Paine - There were demonstrations in my town today, but fortunately they were peaceful. Our local law enforcement was proactive - they worked with the organizers and provided escorts to the protesters while they were matching on the various streets. They sent out mass emails to locals and the media yesterday. Unfortunately, peaceful protests haven't been the case in some parts of my state.

Beth - I'm glad you're feeling better today. Can't wait to hear about your upcoming training.

Anny - An afternoon walk on the harbour bridge sounds absolutely divine - I'm so jealous! At this point I'm just hoping I won't be too sore to walk tomorrow, LOL!

Hope all is well with Garrie - did you start back to work at the bookstore this past week?

CS 1308
Yoga in the Garden of Serenity (Torso practice)

I really liked CS 1308 and marked it as a favorite. I also enjoyed the Torso practice from Yoga in the Garden of Serenity.

Cyana, I wish I could see your flowers when they are blooming. We need to plant some flowers here.

Hi all! Yes, I was mostly MIA last week due to returning to work and getting back into a new routine. I've been working roughly 20 hours a week at the bookstore--fulfilling orders, answering phone calls and emails, shifting our shipping services from FedEx to UPS, etc. It feels strange not having customers come in! Also, some of the downstairs offices are in the process of moving upstairs. This morning the manager and I got a call from the woman working across the hall in the business office, saying that there is supposed to be a "peaceful protest" tomorrow (with the time unknown). I was given the option to work or not, and I've decided to stay home tomorrow (just to be safe).

Yesterday I rode down the mountain towards North Carolina to get some plants and even stopped in a Goodwill down there (which has been open for a month ). I picked up a Trim Healthy Mama cookbook, a DVD player (since I had to move the one from my upstairs bedroom down to the downstairs den to use my spin bike DVDs), and a UFC Fit Trainer game for Xbox 360 Kinect.

Here was last week workout-wise for me:

Sunday:
Jari Love Slim & Lean (all)

Monday:
No workout (rest day)

Tuesday:
30 minute Mow Max

Wednesday:
Cathe's High Step Challenge (minus the cardio in Cycle 5--I hate the long set of zig-zag jumps! )

Thursday:
Seasun Zieger's Z-Fit Super Step (fun choreography but crappy music )

Friday:
The Firm: Time Crunch Workout aka Volume 4 (minus the Dork/Dazzle Dance )

Saturday:
The Firm: Super Cardio Mix (the whole thing)

This week I'm starting a modified Body Beast rotation, which I purchased last year in Beachbody's Black Friday sale. I will be following the Lean schedule, but subbing for the cardio (whatever suits my fancy--Cathe, spin bike, step, Turbo Fire, etc.).

I'll chat more later tonight. Waves to all!

Sandra, sorry yo didn't get your walk in--I guess a pool is more attractive than an aunt.

cyana, are you sore today as predicted?

Paine, I think I did the torso segment from YITGOS a few weeks ago. I always forget that I like the other segments from that video.

Hi Garrie! Glad you are able to work, although sounds like a good decision to stay home tomorrow. The Goodwill stores here are re-opening, but I am disappointing that the fitting rooms will be closed AND no returns are allowed. Oh well, I can go look for books/DVDs anyway!

I started my yin training today. I am enjoying so far! There is definitely a lot of material. One analogy I liked from today was yin yoga being like braces for the teeth--ie, you don't hammer at the teeth to get them to move!

Sandra thank you for the start and for the very applicable quote. I am glad you are getting in your walks and some self care. The indoor pool and gym in our apartment block are still closed as well.

Paine it’s nice when we find a practice to bookmark as a fave, as you did with that CS workout. I can imagine that looting would be frightening as well as annoying. As you say, peaceful protests are best.

cyana your gardening sounds lovely. Im sorry to hear about the long hours at work and lack of sleep.

Beth glad to hear the migraine has improved. I also like the analogy from your yoga training.

Garrie good to see you back! Sounds like work has been busy. I have driven past several open op shops but haven’t had a chance to pop in except to drop off some clothes and books (two sons and I did one of our regular clean ups and declutters recently).

For exercise, I walked and also combined some of the short weights routines from JV’s 12 minute workout book.
