Anyone here with herniated disks? UPDATE on my condition
Good morning!!!!
Ok so I've been posting a lot lately about my back issues/injuries (sorry about that) I just wanted to give you an update and ask a couple of questions. I was diagnosed with SI joint dysfunction/injury a while ago (my injury happened 5 months ago!). This is what I've done about it. 1. 1 Round of PT (7 weeks) improved my condition by 30%. No more pain lifting my leg or getting into the car. 2. After that I got trigger point therapy - didn't do anything 3. After that I went to see a Orthopedic/pain management doctor who ordered x-rays and sent me for PT again + gave me a cortisone shot in my SI joint - didn't improve my condition and actually made it worse for a while. 4. After that I stared seeing a chiropractor and thank God I am finding some relief with him. My SI joint does not hurt as much any more but I still have some back pain. X-rays showed that my pelvis is tilted, etc. Chiro is taking care of that very successfully. He also wants me to use and inversion table at home so I ordered one last night. http://www.amazon.com/Body-Champ-IT8...3501780&sr=8-1 5. I got an MRI yesterday as I wasn't getting 100% & my injury happened 5 months ago and it showed that I have 3 herniated disks in my lower back. The Chiro was kind of surprised that I am not in more pain. I do get leg pain from time to time, but it's more like an overall achiness. He said that I NEED to work on my abs big time and my glutes. I need to strengthen these areas so I don't do further damage to my spine. So right now I need to get stronger. So my questions to you ladies are: 1. Do any of you have herniated disks and are able to workout with little issues???? I am afraid I won't be able to do the workouts that I want to do going forward (P90X, yoga, Cathe Low impact set, etc ) GGGRRRRR... 2. Do you recommend any DVDs that will help in getting stronger abs and glutes? I have Fitness Fix and I am incline to start with those but I forget if Denise Includes a segment for abs only. I also have Total Body Solution. Any other DVDs that will help with these areas? I heard pilates is great for abs but I am not a big fan of pilates. Any input is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks for taking the time to read this post!!! Carla

Carla, I don't have your issues, but I can tell you that on the Fitness Fix DVDs, Denise includes Upper Body Fix, Lower Body Fix, Core Fix, and a 30-Minute Fix w/compound moves blending all three. The foam roller stretches on these DVDs might help you as well--good luck & keep us posted!

Chiropractic adjustments and massages combined can do wonders. I've had three lower back surgeries, the last one was a fusion. The fusion was done a year after a failed second surgery which left me pretty much bedridden. Even though I was only given a 30% chance of the fusion working, I had no other option. My quality of life was nil. Even though I live with a certain amount of pain everyday, my quality of life is vastly improved. I wouldn't have been able to say this without having the fusion done, which took place in 1997. Fast forward to today, and I'm once again an advanced exerciser. I played competitive softball prior to my accidents, and this is the only activity that I have not resumed. I have issues with C 5-6 and my orthopaedic surgeon wanted to perform surgery the same time I was having my surgeries for L4-5 and I said, no. Certain things flare this area of my neck, and when it happens, I experience numbness in my right pinkie and pain in my right biceps.
