Alas, I am VERY rural and there are no Nordstroms or Macys within 90 miles of me. But good tips...maybe other bigger department stores would have the same?

I'm also going to check out some of those bras mentioned. Thank you girls!

This is a pet subject of mine. I had been wearing the wrong bra size for years. Once I found the right size and shape, bras are so much more comfortable! I highly recommend checking out Reddit's A Bra That Fits Beginner's Guide.

There are 2 important factors to finding the right bra:

1. Get your real size. Places like Victoria's Secret don't measure properly. They want you to fit in their very limited size range. The guide has a way to measure yourself. If you want to get measured, go to a store that has a wide variety of sizes like bands below 32 and cups above DDDD. Nordstrom and Dillard are usually pretty good, but there are also local stores near you, too.

2. Figure out your breast shape. You find that in the guide or a good bra fitter can help. Your breast shape will determine whether you do well in a plunge, a full cup, a balcony, etc., style of bra. The guide listed above will give you brands and styles based on your shape.

Unfortunately, finding my proper size means that I no longer get to shop at Kohls or TJ Maxx for bras, but at least I am comfortable and supported!

comfortable bras - True & Co, at Target

I hate uncomfortable bras, too.

I found that True & Co bras are the most comfortable bras ever, hands down.

In particular I'm partial to this one with adjustable straps which you can buy at Target for $23.

The bottom of the bra is not a band, it's a smooth fabric piece like a soft nylon camisole. It has removable pads and is machine washable. And it provides lift and coverage. The entire bra is knitted almost in one piece, with very few seams and no wires or plastic boning to gouge into the skin.

It might not provide enough lift for C cups, but for anyone with costochondritis (rib cage inflammation) like me, it's a Godsend.

Best of luck to you, Kate, on your "search for the perfect bra". Be sure to report back when you find it and the perfect purse and the perfect _______ (fill in the blank).

Kate,
I have had good luck at aerie.
Different styles that lift and offer great support. Whenever I go, the salespeople are very sweet and hunt high and low until I am happy.
Plus I get to leave a positive message on a post it note on the mirror when I leave

Second vote for Aerie. All kinds of fits and styles. Very reasonable prices.

I'm also very impressed with Nordstrom's bra fitters at Mall of America. Seeing my shape they were able to limit the styles and companies to those that will best support me - I love what I've come home with from them!

Now that I'm "retired" I only wear sports bras. They are so much more comfortable to me and there are many options. I also am not well endowed, something that bothered me in my younger days but these days not so much.

I wish I could fine a decent, comfortable bra for smaller sizes. One that isn’t insanely padded or push up style. Just a tshirt bra. And third love? When I emailed them about the lack of diversity in theirs sizes, I got a snitty response

I like warcoal bralette s with the removable pads. But I would like a normal bra.

use the Support VF link to onehanesplace

One hanesplace has free shipping for bras with code SHIPBRAS.
They sell Bali, Hanes, Maidenform, and Champion.

My current favorite is Hanes Women's Oh So Light Foam ComfortFlex Fit Wirefree Bra. The foam is a thin lining, not contour-padded. Onehanesplace also sells Maidenform bra extenders, which I use. My ribcage is large (I think it's from decades of singing) and if cups fit, the band is too tight. Bra extenders make it comfortable.
