Thanks for this! I'm working on being more aware of my thoughts and the effect they have on me. I'm also working on responding rather than reacting.

Yes, I have been meditating (TM) twice per day since college (1978).

Respond rather than reacting is huge! So is just being able to notice your thoughts and sensations with curiosity.

I meditated regularly for a few months. I found that if I did yoga or pilates where I was focusing on my breathe and moving with it I got a similar result although probably not as great. Knowing how the regular practice did help I have that in my toolbox for difficult times.

I don't, but know a lot of friends who benefit from meditating. I am way too ADHD.. No attention span to sit and meditate. I love to read, so I guess that's as meditative as I'll get.

I hesitate to post this as I haven't checked the links in a LONG time. Still, there might be some helpful info:

Mindfulness meditation doesn't have to be sitting. You can do a walking meditation, a drinking tea meditation, etc. Everyone has an active mind (it's the brain's job to produce thoughts) and meditation doesn't change that. Rather, it allows us to more purposefully attend to what is going on.

Perhaps meditation is especially meant for you with a short attention span. Reading is meditative though as you are focusing on your book and not about different thoughts.

I have meditated every single day without fail for well over 3 years now. I meditated sporadically before then but daily meditation has done amazing things for my stress, my reactivity, everything.
My mental health is better, my physical health is better. I can deal with my spouse better who has severe combat-related PTSD.

Life is just better for me. I highly recommend everyone try to sit for at least 5-10 minutes. That's not that long in the grand scheme of things. Try it! You'll love yourself for it!

I subscribed to Headspace and "listened" to it every night for about a year, does that count? ... The real story is Andy Puddicombe's voice is so soothing to me, it's ultra-relaxing. So I didn't really "do" the meditation actions he walked us through (like count my breath, or any of the visualization exercises), I just listened to his voice, and poof! I'd be asleep in 10 minutes.
