OT - I need a good comeback line

I was just at the casino and there was a man playing a machine with no one next to him but there was a purse on the chair. I asked him if someone was playing that machine and he said, “How dumb can you be? You see the purse sitting there. Do you think she’d just leave it there?” I said, “She might if you are supposed to be watching it for her.” He said, “I can’t believe you’re that f****** stupid.” I didn’t even know what to say. My feelings were hurt and I felt like crying. I wish I had a good comeback line that wouldn’t have brought me down to his level but would have let him know what an ass he was being. Any suggestions for the next time?

I wouldn't waste my time or thoughts on someone like this. His words and reactions say so much about him and it has nothing to do with you. Shake it off. I can understand how disturbing that must have been to experience but this surely will not be your norm. Find a way to let it go. This guy has a serious problem.

Years ago a comment like that would have upset me but I've learned that idiots like him aren't worth my time or emotions (other than to pretend I'm beating the crap out of them during my kickboxing workouts).

There are a couple of things we say to kids who use that language.

I can't believe you eat with the mouth you use to talk that filth.
Do you kiss your mom (girl friend, boy friend, etc) with that nasty mouth?
Such a pretty girl. It's a shame you use such ugly language.

As violent, crazy, and unpredictable as ppl are these days, you should feel fortunate that you didn't say any more than what you did. He might have had a really bad reaction for you if you had given a smart ass comeback. Just walk away from ppl like that.

I'm appalled at the general lack of civility nowadays, and I agree, just walk away and don't waste another minute of your life letting this incident impact you or your feelings.

I thought about it later and wish I had said something like, “I didn’t mean to make you angry - I was just double checking.” But then again, people who get angry over nothing don’t usually get over it until they are good and ready.
