I changed my mind about this one!

Happy New Year everyone! I titled this thread over what just now happened to me. I, like all of you on here, have many videos. I collected Jillian videos when they first came out because she was on BL, well known, etc so I got all of her vids including her sets like Body Revolution and her newest one. I tried to do them and just didn't mesh with them yet I still tried to like her. Finally in late 2015 I concluded her workouts just aren't for me. Her boorish behavior on that Spike tv show did not help her image in my opinion so I shelved her videos. Tonight as I was looking over which workout to do tomorrow, I happened upon her videos. They still are included in my active set of vids. I pulled out the Body Shred and previewed the Fire Up cardio and it looked good! So good that I got up and started doing it. It's great! Hmm so my preview went to completion... and I liked it. I am going to do this dvd tomorrow. Well from the beginning. I just knew that I was not compatible with Jillian but her BodyShred changed my mind. I previewed the whole set and I am feeling this system! See, this is why I don't want to get rid of dvds I don't mesh with! I just have a feeling that one day I will like them.

Has this every happened to anyone else? You said, I don't like this person and then one day, you do? Am I alone?

That can't really happen even though it looks like it does.

In other words, underneath it all I think you liked intense, bootcamp-ish workouts. Then you got those workouts from other, shall we say more personable instructors (for want of a better term ... maybe I am saying Jillian M. is not personable and meaning it as an understatement ...). Then you came to like Jillian because by the time you thougt of going to Jillian, you were physically ready and spiritually ready.

Like megaton The Four Agreements-style ready. Suddenly, her ranting is not personal tp you. You have the needed "thick skin" to deal with this Type-A steamroller.

There is a certain too-militaristic pilates instructor I have a similar take on ...

No, it has happened to me too!

Mine was walking workouts. Back in the day, I thought they were for seniors only. I never would have tried any walking workouts til I turned 65 lol

I was kinda hardcore when I started working out with the Firm yrs ago. Being on VF really helped me to branch out to not only different methods but also different levels of intensity no matter if you are advanced or beginner. There are times for intensity & times for relaxing workouts too.

I often use walking workouts now. I no longer feel they are too easy & sometimes I will boost them when I want easy choreography with intensity.

VF has taught me to have a wide selection of stuff to meet my needs at any given time rather than just doing one type of workout forever & ever. That's why I keep all my stuff too !

Enjoy Jillian for long as your heart desires & freely move on when you've had enough

This has happened to me too!
I gave up all my circuit workouts years ago because I just wasn't feeling like I liked circuits (felt like muscle groups were worked unevenly). Then a friend of mine loaned me a circuit workout she liked (KCM lean body circuits). I loved it! Having kids now, I love a quick circuit where you get a little cardio, a little weights and still feel like you got a workout

I want to know about the pilates instructor too! I have a huge collection and can't seem to find one who would fit the description. Pilates people being a generally mild group, lol!

Oh the list could go on forever, but off the top of my head:
  • Circuit workouts
  • Walking workouts
  • Any workout that combined strength and cardio
  • pre-Goodtimes Firm workouts
  • Workouts under an hour

These are now LOVES or very strong LIKES for me now, when before I wouldn't dream of them.

That is happened with me with several genres of workouts.

1. Barre- I used to loathe barre workouts but now barre (especially lower body barre) are a staple in all of my rotations.
2. Circuits - I used to feel like circuits were not an efficient use of my time, preferring either straight cardio and strength splits. Now I routinely add circuits to my rotations,
albeit I used them mostly as cardio workouts and not strict strength workouts
3. Milder cardio- My go to cardio workouts used to be "make you feel like you want to puke in the bucket" workouts and although I still love and do those workouts, I have come to see the wisdom in taking it down several notches and now enjoy some "tamer" workouts.
4. Yoga- I hold onto most of my yoga workouts, thinking one day I will come to like them. Who knows maybe one day....

This happened to me with Tony Horton and P90X. At first, his personality and the way he talked bugged me. I tried the workouts a number of times, and eventually found him less annoying. I liked some of the workouts enough that I think I was able to ignore him. I even found some of his jokes somewhat amusing.
