Starting STS soon, but knees are shot

I did the 3.5 month STS rotation 2 years ago and have been mixing Body Beast, CLX and X-Train Fit ever since. I've always had knee issues since playing tennis in high school, but they've been really bad lately - if I squat, my knees sound like you're crunching a potato chip! I plan on doing an STS pyramid soon, but using the 6.5 month plan so I can adjust my weights, but my question is - has anyone found a good compression sleeve or brace or something that helped with knee pain when doing the moves required by STS? There seem to be a ton on the market with varying reviews. I don't need something for all day, just for the workout on leg day.

My knees crunch too and I can't do lunges or squats without injuring my right knee. I wear this:

Cho-Pat Dual Action Knee Strap, Black, Small, 12 Inch-14 Inch

I got it on amazon. Don't know how to post a link. I've been wearing them since 2011 whenever I do a workout that requires lunges or squats. Kinda awkward when kneeling in them but I got used to it. It really works to stabilize the knee/patella. I haven't injured my right knee since I started wearing it.

I haven't tried other braces as this one has worked for me. My left knee never had problems but I wear this brace on it too because I figure prevention is better than the cure. . Really want to avoid surgery!

I would really be careful. It's sounds as if you've worn away some cartilage. You don't want to wear away anymore. I would consider getting an X-ray or consulting a PT or both, but go ahead and get started on the upper body workouts.

No disrespect intended, but why start a grueling program like STS when your knees are bothering you? Have you had your knees checked by a sports physician? Some issues can't be fixed by just wearing a brace.

Here is a good article about knee health:

When I have knee issues, I focus on regaining knee health for a few months.

Take care of yourself.
