I forgot about the down side of gift cards. My friend who was scammed by an online romance scammer sent him thousands of dollars in iTunes gift cards.

My sister-in-law always gives us Starbucks gift cards. I register them to my Starbucks account and we win rewards for free stuff when we use them. I also won a Visa gift card in a raffle at our office holiday party. I had no problems using it at the Sur La Table clearance sale.

Agree with those that have mentioned that if you are giving a gift card, make sure it is for someplace the recipient actually shops.
Right now I'm sitting on two Barnes & Noble gift cards. I suspect the givers thought I would use them to buy ebooks, but I have a Kindle Paperwhite, not a BN Nook, and the digital content isn't interchangeable. Amazon cards would have been more useful to me. |
