There is a wonderful prequel to this book called The Rules of Magic that was just released in 2017. Happy Birthday!

I listened to the audiobook of Rules of Magic and loved it. Have't read Practical Magic yet but plan to soon.

I just finished Where the Crawdads Sing. I don't know what I think of it, frankly. Now I'm reading The Cartel...second in a trilogy.

I am reading one light book "The Love of a Lifetime" by Melissa Hill and one heavier book "The Pact" by Jodi Picoult.

Yeah, I do the same with Kindle deals and Scribd – though I do also preorder books that sound particularly appealing.
I live in a non-English-speaking country so unfortunately the library doesn't have much in terms of new/recent releases

I also host a book swap every month though so I get some from there and I have a chance to share those that aren't "keepers" — I have limited space on my bookshelves so for the most part I only keep books that I rated 4 stars or above and I'm sure I'll want to reread! Though I sometimes give series another shot to impress me and keep the first book until I've read the second, even when the first is below 4 stars.

I tend to stick to younger fantasy; same with historical fiction.
Yes, YA fantasy has gotten very good in recent years! Some of my top favorites are YA:
Daughter of Smoke and Bone
the Grisha trilogy (Shadow and Bone)
The Raven Cycle
Three Dark Crowns quartet (last book coming in September)
Shades of Magic trilogy (A Darker Shade of Magic)

two fantasy favorites that aren't YA are the Nevernight Chronicles and the Daevabad trilogy (City of Brass), both of them I think would be intriguing also to fans of historical fiction wanting to delve into fantasy — especially City f Brass, the world is so rich and fascinating!

Belated Happy Birthday!

I hope you enjoy Practical Magic! I read it years ago and recently listened to the audiobook on Scribd – what a lovely book!
The movie adaptation was also surprisingly good! And has a good soundtrack as well

Thanks for all the recommendations. I had to stop what I was doing this afternoon and spend a session on Amazon looking up books.

Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane. It was the one of the best books that I’ve read this year. Other excellent reads for 2019 were Stuart O’Nan’s Henry Himself and A God In Ruins, by the fabulous Kate Atkinson. Right now I’m reading Denise Mina’s new release.

I've rediscovered memoirs.

Murakami's What I talk about when I talk about running was very good.

Run, Don't Walk: The Curious and Chaotic Life of a Physical Therapist Inside Walter Reed Army Medical Center by Adele Levine

Read them each in one (long) sitting. The Murakami was better written.

Started Isaac Mizrahi's IM just last night and so far it looks entertaining.
