Essentrics question

Hi all. Just curious if Essentrics is enough for the core and arms or if you add something else in. I have recently gotten back into Essentrics because I just don't have the energy to do anything besides this and walking. My go to workouts are too long and are just draining me. I like that I can split these into 30 minute workouts and I don't feel exhausted after. Just too much going on in my life right now to stress about workouts. Thanks!

Walking and Essentrics is a great combo!!

It does seem to me that Essentrics has done good things for my shoulders.

Maybe add in some short weight workouts if you want more variety for your overall rotation?

I'm currently liking Lauren Brook's Shut up and Train, a set of shorter kettlebell workouts, but I'm also a fan of KCM's Weights.

I sometimes go through a few weeks where I do just Essentrics and walk or other cardio, or just Pilates and cardio, and it’s fine for me for a while, but I always end up adding in more for arms and especially legs.

A lot of this depends on overall lifestyle, movement patterns outside of exercise time, and personal preferences. I don’t get as much lifting, carrying, running around, walking, or up and down movements as I used to in my daily life. But some people do and so don’t have to think about that as “exercise” and consciously include it.

If what you are doing is what feels best right now than I would honor that. It is all beneficial movement. If you feel you are losing muscle tone or want to work on other aspects of fitness, you can always add things back in.

I like to add upper body weight work with CS/Essentrics because I don't think the arm work in CS/Essentrics is enough (for me). I usually do Margaret, Jari or Cathe for upper body work. I also add on lower body barre work on alternate days.

If you choose workouts with more intense CS/Essentrics core work, that should be enough for core work.

Keep in mind that both Miranda and Sahra only do CS/Essentrics for their daily exercise so it's a personal decision based on your needs and goals.

I add in some extra upper body/arms workouts twice a week. Usually Hamelin or something from one of the Barre workouts on YouTube.

Lately I've been adding in arm work. I like to do Suzanne Bowen's Pilates Perfect Body arms or similar. Something short.

Essentrics is the core of my workouts, do it almost daily. I feel I need a little more upper body & core work so I swim & do Margaret Richard, barre, & a little Pilates.

I've been trying to do 2-3 Essentrics workouts (standing portions of Class of 2012, Full Body Toning, and Waist Toner led by Gail) a week in the past 3-4 weeks and I have to say that it's making a difference in my mid-section.

Recently someone I rarely see told me that she didn't recognize me because I looked smaller. I think it's all Essentrics. While I'm far from having a 6-pack or even a flat belly, I think this is strengthening my core and improving my posture. If this will help me reduce my pot belly I will be super delighted.

As for arms, maybe in the future I will supplement it. I'm planning to incorporate some Jessica Smith and Lauren Brooks when I get stronger. But for now, I'm happy that my body feels good (no aches and pain) and my pot belly is starting to slim down.

Good to hear! How do you like the streaming? Do they have shorter workouts? This week has been a wash with workouts. Too much rain and just a down right bad week, but my goal is to alternate Class of 2010 and Full Body Toning. I wish I could get the new one, but I just don't have a penny to spare right now. I am curious what the on line streaming is like. I really wish they offered a free week trial or something
