Thinking of Sandra this morning.

Chasing Julia and her toys up and down the hallway is my exercise. She has a stash of stuff under the loveseat, toys, my old watch, a tube of handcream, etc. I'm going to try to do some shoulder and arms with dumbbells.

cyana, When I was in PT for the knee and hip replacements I saw men with tears streaming down their face while using 2 pound dumbbells after shoulder surgery. I told the PT's I never wanted to rehab a shoulder. Silly me. The reverse shoulder replacement will have me in a sling for a week or less compared to 8 or 12 weeks for the rotator cuff. Length of time for recovery will be about the same but without the sling I can handle it.

Quick fly by....hoping Sandra's surgery and first night home went as smoothly as possible. I feel a bit like an old Mother Hen fretting over my flock!

Hi all!

First of all, thank you so much for your good wishes.

I tried to do a brief post via my tablet yesterday evening but it didn't work so here I am this morning at my trusty 'puter.

The surgery went very smoothly and I actually got home about 2 pm. Was taken to the back right after my 7:25 check-in, where they told me the operation would take place at 9:30. I naively assumed I would spend two hours twiddling my thumbs but of course there were a lot of pre-surgery tasks. All staff was friendly and professional, always telling me what they were doing and how it would feel on my body. I woke up in post-op about 10:45, where I rested and also had a light meal (the nice nurse even volunteered to go toast my bagel!). My brother came and collected my prescriptions, then we both went over my PT instructions for getting around with a walker. Oh, and I saw my surgeon, and when I asked how the joint looked he said it was indeed pretty damaged.

In addition to the spinal block and light anesthesia for the actual operation, I was also given a knee nerve block which will last 2-4 days. The downside is it makes the joint a little less stable for getting around, but the good news is it blunts the pain for the first couple of post-op days (when it is naturally worst). In fact, I only feel a little discomfort and no real pain, and I was able to sleep last night. I do have pain meds to take as needed.

So there we are! A Home Health/PT person is coming later this morning. In the meantime my brother is keeping an eye on me.

I will keep you posted.

Sandra, good to hear from you! Glad to hear that everything went so smoothly/quickly and that you had your brother to help. It must have been at least a bit validating to hear that the knee was in bad shape! Hope you continue to be mostly pain free over the next few days.

Sandra, I woke up this morning thinking about you so I'm glad you checked in to tell us you are doing OK!

Pat, I agree that the time change needs to go. I wish they would stick with one time all year long (like Arizona)!
