Hi all!
First of all, thank you so much for your good wishes.
I tried to do a brief post via my tablet yesterday evening but it didn't work so here I am this morning at my trusty 'puter.
The surgery went very smoothly and I actually got home about 2 pm. Was taken to the back right after my 7:25 check-in, where they told me the operation would take place at 9:30. I naively assumed I would spend two hours twiddling my thumbs but of course there were a lot of pre-surgery tasks. All staff was friendly and professional, always telling me what they were doing and how it would feel on my body. I woke up in post-op about 10:45, where I rested and also had a light meal (the nice nurse even volunteered to go toast my bagel!). My brother came and collected my prescriptions, then we both went over my PT instructions for getting around with a walker. Oh, and I saw my surgeon, and when I asked how the joint looked he said it was indeed pretty damaged.
In addition to the spinal block and light anesthesia for the actual operation, I was also given a knee nerve block which will last 2-4 days. The downside is it makes the joint a little less stable for getting around, but the good news is it blunts the pain for the first couple of post-op days (when it is naturally worst). In fact, I only feel a little discomfort and no real pain, and I was able to sleep last night. I do have pain meds to take as needed.
So there we are! A Home Health/PT person is coming later this morning. In the meantime my brother is keeping an eye on me.
I will keep you posted.
