This. I wasn't shocked to hear the news. I know of too many people personally who are marathon runners, etc. who have had heart attacks. One in his late 20s didn't survive, the other three did. I think of exercise and other healthy habits as ways to improve quality of life (along with other things, like having healthy relationships in general in our lives). But outside of that there are no guarantees.

Maybe they are friends? Despite Dr. Oz shilling unnecessary products, he still IS an expert in his field of cardiology.

And what exactly does Bob want to "save face" from?

i listen to Dr. Oz/Mehmet's audiobooks quite often since they're packed with information. i've also read one or two of bob's books and enjoy his BL's workouts too. hope bob continues to make a full recovery.

Bob Harper

I watched the episode on line and thought it was really good. I know that Dr Oz and Bob Harper have worked together in the past. I would have been surprised if Dr. Oz did not do an episode on this. I had not realized that Bob had flatlined and about his genetic condition that led him down this road. I like that they are working together to see that AED's will be in all gyms. They also did a good demo on CPR.

Or possibly being in good shape helps with a speedier recovery?

I am reminded of Jim Fixx, the running guru who died of a heart attack. It's true, we can only make the best of what we got genetically assigned. Live each day and enjoy it...

Jim Fixx also had an unhealthy diet.

AEDs are so affordable now - I remember when they first came out, our company bought 3 of them to be spread amongst the 3 major facilities on this island.

now we have them based on roughly 1 for every 50 employees.

CPR is so important - we do refresh training every year. statistics have shown that people who have had to CPR training were more likely to perform it with more confidence.

Bob Harper

What I found interesting watching the show was how vulnerable and emotional Bob came across. I did NOT see this as a PR stunt. The man flat lined and was lucky enough to be brought back for a second chance. Fitness has been his life and his career and to see him only allowed to cardiac walk and do yoga must be tough for him. He did not appear to be selling anything, just grateful at another shot at life. Bob also stated that it was Dr Oz who had called him and pointed him to many specialist, especially this Dr. Ginsburg who found the genetic component to his attack, that was probably the same thing that took his mother life.

I agree.

Furthermore, I honestly did NOT know what an AED was - let alone what they looked like. This segment on what they are and how to use them was very enlightening to me, and I imagine many other people.
