Upper body isolation exercises--are they necessary?
Does anyone feel like doing traditional upper body isolation exercises (esp for biceps and triceps) is a waste of time? During the past few years, I have steered away from doing upper body splits and I don’t feel like I’m missing anything. In fact, I feel like the bodyweight exercises I do on a regular basis have given me more strength to do push-ups on my toes, planks, chaturanga, handstands, and functional chores like gardening. I went on a Cathe Live kick last year for 6 months and did a ton of workouts. While I like a lot of her upper body workouts, I don’t necessarily think they do much for functional strength. And I don’t think biceps and triceps should be given as much focus as the larger muscle groups, which is often the case in her workouts. Any thoughts about this?
