I see you're still a Beast/Amazon with your workouts!! Insanity?? Don't think I would want to/could handle that one any longer at this point, LOL! Good for you and staying injury-free in the process. Keep at it, GF! I know you love your kick-butt workouts along with your yoga! Me too but just not AS kick-butt as yours, probably! Great job on your results so far and keep us updated on your further progress! ETA: I posted this on another thread re: bodyweight workouts, but thought I'd post it here too. This is really interesting, because I've been all about trying to get to the point where I can do Jari Love and FIRM style high rep workouts with bigger weights. I'll never like doing straight strength training without some cardio effect, so that's been my goal. But I took a barre class on a whim at my local yoga studio, and good grief, that was challenging in totally different ways! I felt really worked out, and the instructor had a phenomenal body that was basically my goal. So I'm going to start doing more body weight, barre, Pilates, and similar types of workouts more often. I think it's fabulous to do a mix of all the modalities that you enjoy.

Hi Kate, that sounds like a really nice, healthy rotation, with room for a lot of variety in instructors and styles. I'm sure one could acquire - or maintain - a great fitness base.

Since there's no suggestion on putting a day in between the workouts, I'm going with cardio. Even with pure cardio (i.e. step, hi-lo), there's always the added strength benefit. Basically there's no resting day for these workouts... if your body can take it. My weekly schedule might look like this:
M: Metabolic T: Bodyweight W: Upper Body T: Bodyweight F: Total Body/Kettlebell |

AnMrsDe: Thank you dear..you are always so encouraging! Yes I still love Insanity. I may be a bit slower and don't jump quite as high, but I can keep up with those young whippersnappers!
Yoga makes it possible for me to do these kinds of workouts. I'll never give up weight lifting, but doing more bodyweight is fun. hdw: I don't take breaks during the week with my workouts but I do on the weekends. So I exercise M-F and weekends are still usually filled with activities and yoga. And I think Riptensity is mostly strength but with a cardio feel because you do so much with your body. They are fun! Still at it, still having fun. I am actually looking forward to measuring again at the end of the month to see what has changed.

Really interesting thread – I’m looking forward to hearing more about your progress as time goes on. I always enjoyed heavier weights, but began to incorporate more body weight about 18 months ago. It was not a planned change, just trying out different workouts for variety. I ended up loving the bodyweight workouts. I’m stronger than ever and have much better balance – as if I went from being the klutzy-est person ever, to now just semi-klutzy. They’ve also have had a streamlining effect; I haven’t lost any weight, but all my pants are loose and people keep asking if I’ve lost weight. My heaviest weights these days are 8 pounds during a Michelle Dozois Cardio Strength workout once or twice per week. Honestly, if anyone had told me I’d end up using a lot of bodyweight workouts instead of heavier weights, I would not have believed it.

Thank you all for the great comments!
I have a question...for this little experiment, when I do my weighted workouts, I have been generally doing lower weight/higher rep workouts - for the last 3-4 weeks at least. Like Body Pump, Muscle Endurance etc. If slimming is my desired outcome, should I continue with that or do higher weight/Lower reps? Right now I'm only doing one weighted workout a week with cardio and bodyweight. I used to do 2-3. I honestly am not sure what I am expecting. Slimming with some weight loss? I definitely want to keep my strength and it sounds like many of you do remain strong if not stronger. Just kind of thinking out loud...plus I love reading all your ideas! Thanks!
