Pilates Cross Trainers - January 2021

Hi Everyone,

This check in is for those who like to add Pilates to their workout routines - either as a main course or a side dish!

Happy New Year!!!

This morning's workouts were:

Pahla B - Day # 1 of her new weight loss series. I am not sure if I'm going to follow this or not, I haven't completely decided - but I did need a touch of cardio this morning and Pahla's routine was one of her Power Walks - meaning she alternates a walking/marching exercise w/ a low impact cardio exercise. Today's intervals were 30 seconds each. Nothing really different from Pahla - but it was a nice way to get moving.

Jessica Valent Pilates - 50 Min Intermediate Pilates Workout - Jessica V will be making it into my plans for this month - if not full time, at least part time. Although this was a longer workout, I still enjoyed it. It is the longer version of the workout she had posted on her You Tube channel. I like the way she taught it in a way that any level could participate and generally speaking, her workouts always leave me feeling better than when I started.

I do plan to get some yoga in today. Adriene's challenge starts tomorrow w/ a long practice - I may do it b/c DD and i plan to take a long walk tomorrow- so a yoga/cardio day may be nice.

I am happy to see that Jessica V is including some guest instructors!! Looking forward to trying Rebekah Rothstein's workout later this month.

It is dreary today so other than doing a few house chores I will probably just sit around, relax, read and watch more TZ...

Hope everyone has a good day!

Workouts for the last day of the year were:

Jessica Valant Pilates:
Pilates for Beginners, Part 1 - 27 minutes,
Pilates for Beginners, Part 2 - 13 minutes, and
10 Minutes Pilates - Full Body Stretching - 10 minutes

All of these are available on YouTube. Part 1 was very gentle; of course, Part 2 was noticeably harder. The 10 minute stretch is a very nice, well-rounded stretch.

We had a quiet New Year's Eve at my house. My arm is still quite sore and red at the injection site. I figure it's probably a sign that if I got Covid, I would have gotten more than just the sniffles with it. My body is working hard to build those defenses! I heard the lines yesterday were quite long and that they gave over 2,500 shots. I was lucky to go the first day before everyone had figured it out. Our Governor praised our Public Health Department yesterday on social media for doing such a good job - which was nice, because I know that they've had the year from h***.

Dana - I find that (use it or lose it) to be so true, especially with respect to my core/ab strength and balance. I've never had the best balance, but it's significantly worse than it was 10 years ago.

Linda - I do believe that teachers are in our group 1C here in Texas; I was in 1B because of the diabetes. I know that Lauren does streaming - I wonder if one month of her streaming (which I think includes her DVDs) would be cheaper than a DVD?

Donna - So far no side effects except for the very sore arm and a little bit of redness at the injection site. Definitely worth it for me if it keeps me from getting a serious case of CoVid. I have heard that the side effects increase with the second dose, so I have that to look forward to.

Happy New Year's Day - be sure and eat your black-eyed peas for good luck!

Good morning!

Thanks for starting us in January, Donna!

This morning I did HDM CardioTone G - 50min. I'm planning to do JV pilates later. Not sure I'll do the 50min one that's on the calendar, but hopefully I'll do something.

Carol, I'm glad you don't have any problems (aside from red and sore arm) from the vaccine.

Hi Linda, Brenda, Cheri and Christine!

Donna I agree, some things, like balance, you just have to help your body maintain as much as possible! Thanks for starting us off!

Carol see you at 4! I have an untried pilates dvd on deck and will top it off with a JS stretch!

Dana waving at you! I'll be reading your thoughts on JV with great interest! However, I rarely do pilates for more than 30 minutes myself.

Happy New Year Morning everyone!!

Today's workouts were:

Pahla B - Walk Off the Weight - Day 1 (low impact walking and cardio) - 25 minutes + Pahla's walking cooldown stretch add on
Jessica Valant Pilates - 10 Minute Pilates for Legs & Hips
Jessica Smith - Simply Stretch: Floor Stretch - 25 minutes

The Jessica Smith Floor Stretch was new to me - she used a lot of new to me stretches in this routine, so it wasn't as relaxing as I had hoped because I was trying to figure out what I was supposed to be doing. It was good though - I'm sure it will grow on me.

I ran a couple of errands this morning and good golly there were a lot of people out at Dillard's. Most people I've seen in one place in months. Not sure they were under their 50% occupancy limit, but they were at least enforcing mask wearing.

My arm feels a little less sore tonight, although it's still fairly red. There's a website that you can register with when you get your vaccination - I figured I would sign up as my civic duty - they are texting me once a day to see how I'm doing. It involves filling out a survey about side effects and their severity.

We are working on deconstructing Christmas - and are about half way done. I always like to get that done before I have to go back to work.

Waves to all ~

Hi Everyone,

This morning was:

Day 2 of Pahla's Weight Loss challenge - it was short and sweet - under 25 min - 20 seconds walking, 20 seconds low impact, 20 seconds weight. I do have to, as Pahla says, "quiet the monkey chatter" in my brain that says this isn't enough. Still not 100% sure if I will follow through w/ this challenge, but I made it to Day 2. I think the key to me following any challenge is to allow for some flexibility - so it may be that this takes me longer than 30 days to complete if I get the urge to do something else here and there...we shall see...as Pahla also says, "there are no exercise police" so I am sure if I slip in an Ellen Barrett workout, I'll be ok...

Yoga w/ Adriene - Breath - Day 1 - Invitation - this was the longest practice of her series at 48 minutes, but I had the time this morning to do it. It was slow moving, as are most of her Day 1 videos. Again, we shall see how long I last w/ this challenge - again, the key being, allowing for flexibility.

I plan to walk w/ DD today if she is up for it. Yesterday I was just a total couch potato, I haven't done that in forever. It felt good.

Carol - glad the only side-effect so far is the sore arm - I get that from the flu shot...

Waves, everyone...

Hope everyone has a good day ---

Good morning!

JS 5 Mix & Match Miles - WU, Mile 1 & 2 - 36min
ePilates Barre Total Body - 21min

I was planning to go to the office today but we got some mixed bag of rain, snow and freezing rain yesterday with falling temps. The result is that we have significant icing under some snow and it's cold, so nothing will be melting any time soon. I have a 20 mile commute (mostly highway and main roads) but still icy driving out there. I'm not taking any chances and I'm staying home today.

As for my workouts this year, in addition to consistency, I'm vowing not to overthink and over complicate things. JV and ePilates will be my mainstay with addition of steady state cardio. At least that's the plan for January. I've started logging my food on LoseIt app. I need to get serious about losing weight. If nothing changes - nothing will change.

Waves to all!

Carol we coordinated but still different workouts, I know, but it was still kinda cool. Thanks for playing! Did you pick up anything at Dillard's?

Dana nothing makes me rethink travel more than ice! I also agree that the simpler you can make the decisions for yourself..the easier making the choices best for you become. Only you can decide how that plays out..but I think you have the right mindset going in

Donna all my rotations take longer than other people but I'm ok with that. I just go back and pick up where I left off. So when I read you saying that, I totally agree! Hopefully, hearing that you're not alone in that reassures you that this is perfectly fine!

lots of stepping and weight bearing strength stuff

I feel like this is the breath before the plunge. My college classes start on Monday along with homeschooling the boys. All will be well but it will be a busy week adjusting to not being on vacation anymore.

Donna, it's been really dreary here as well. It rained hard all day and we haven't seen the sun in days. I don't mind too much except for any time any of us have to leave the house. LOL We get drenched.

Carol, I'm glad you didn't have any serious side effects.

Linda, that's exactly how I do rotations, when I can manage to stick with them. I just do the next workout... then do the next one... and eventually I finish it.

Everybody, Hi!!

Yesterday's workout was

Pahla B - Walk Off the Weight - Day 2 (low impact cardio & toning) - 25 minutes

This one moved fast - 20 seconds of walking, 20 seconds of a low impact cardio move, and 20 seconds of a toning move with weights, then it was on to the next set of moves. You did the entire circuit twice and then you were done (before you knew it). I didn't get any add-ons done - my dogs were extra frisky yesterday so I spent a fair amount of time with them. We finished the inside Christmas stuff and I straightened up a closet and finished all the scanning for work - it was good to get that done!

Brenda - I know how you feel on the last day of a break! I rarely sleep well the night before. Boo hiss! But you are right, it will be fine.

Linda - Nope, no purchases at Dillards, just in and out - dropping off a payment on my Dillards card because I fooled around and didn't get it in the mail in a timely manner.

Dana - I don't do ice. It's an automatic stay home for me because no one can drive on it well - talk about no control! Your vow - not to over complicate things - sounds like a good one.

Donna - As Pahla would ask, what are your goals? If it's weight loss, then her short workout is plenty. If you are like me, and your goal is just movement and some strengthening/tonng maintenance, her workout is enough. If you want to look like Cathe, it's not enough. I don't normally get much of a sore arm from the flu shot and it never gets red - this took both of those things to a new level for me. But, it's much better today - still red, but the soreness is going away.

Today we are tackling the outside Christmas decorations and then we will be done!
