Home away from VF - tips on other forums should we need them

Hi everybody -

I thought it might be helpful to start a thread specifically to discuss our back up plans should VF disappear.

Since any other forum will look and act somewhat differently from VF, I thought we could help one another by sharing tips for identifying and using other forums (and also maybe we could see where our online friends are headed).

So I’ll start with three tips:

- Both VFRoost (https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/vfroost/) and Mary’s TotalFitnessDVD’s forums are on tapatalk. If you sign up for tapatalk, you can easily add both forums, so you can access them in the same place.
- Taptalk on a laptop has a lot of ads in the middle of the threads and that pop up while you’re reading, but there are ways to avoid this. I downloaded the tapatalk app and so far the ads are much less intrusive. If you use a laptop, though, it looks like you can pay to be a “VIP” member for 99 cents/month, $10/year or $30 for ‘lifetime”, and it says you won’t have any ads (also true for the app if the ads in the app bother you). I haven’t paid this yet…is there anybody who has who can verify? If so, that’s less than the $20 many of us pay here per year.
- you can like, love, etc. posts on tapatalk - a function I know we’ve hoped for here for a long time.

I know other forums are being discussed in the 2 threads expressing concerns about VF’s stability, but I thought a thread focusing only on finding a backup plan might be more visible to all VF’ers and those who have wanted to join VF, but haven’t been able to do so. I had no part in creating VFRoost, so thank you to those who did.

I’m also new to tapatalk, and like it so far now that I’m starting to tame the ads, but would love to know other’s tips for use and/or ideas on other forums.

I have another tip:

To add an avatar on VFRoost, go to your profile and, at the bottom, you’ll see “other actions’. Select “control panel” and you’ll see the option to add an avatar, signature, etc.

It took me a while to figure that one out!

I plan to stay here at VF as long as it's still up and running and we can post, but I agree a backup plan is good to have. I actually didn't know Mary had a forum! I'm open to going there or to VF Roost. Or maybe both?

As far as ads on Tapatalk, I have an ad blocker installed on my browser and I am not seeing any ads.

I had mentioned Reddit in another thread, but there are some issues related to third party apps right now so probably best to go with Mary or VF Roost. It seems a lot of VFers have already setup accounts there. I find Tapatalk easy to use.

Trixoo, thank you so much. I'm going to join both. Thanks for all the detailed tips. As much as I love it here, it's wise to have a back-up plan. To keep both other places active, I may start posting on them also.

this reminds me of when The Firm closed down their forum, and Yaya's (firmbelivers, without the "e" after "i") was born.

Thanks for the reminder of these other forums. I am a member but forget about it and haven't been there in (I hate to say it) two years from what I can see. I need to get it bookmarked

freeforums.net is a good website. A bunch of us moved to various freeforums groups when the Weight Watchers message boards were taken down. It operates much the way VF does now.

It might be best to create a new forum (especially since it’s free) in the same style as this one so we can leave instructor reviews, have an exchange etc. Do you have any links to other forums? The link you provided is for building a forum.

If VF disappeared (and I truly hope it doesn't), I'd probably go to the Cathe forums first. I haven't visited there in years, but did just post recently regarding the issues with the stretch DVD.

Is the taptalk fourm for roost free? I have a chromebook, so I don't know if the ads would be too annoying or not.
