Question What are your favorite hiking boots?

I have an old pair of Hi-Tecs that still have some life in them, but I am interested in what brands folks like now?

I like brands with a wider toe box and that come in wide sizes. And, I prefer hiking boots over hiking shoes for ankle support.

TIA!

I have a pair of North Face hiking boots. They are very comfortable, have a wide toe box, and have held up well. I've been looking at Hi Tec's as a backup pair because I have seen some good deals recently. Have you been happy with yours? Do they run true to size? I usually size up one size on my running shoes and hiking boots.

I've always liked Hit-Tec. Yet, they rarely appear on any "Best of Hiking Boots" lists. I always size up in any footwear. I have custom orthotics.

I had a pair of Hi-Tec and wasn't impressed. I wear Merrells and go up a half size like I do my running shoes. I love them.

Merrells were out of my price range when I first got in to hiking. I did splurge on a pair once. I thought they fit well and did some shorter test hikes before setting out on a long one. I climbed a local peak (10,804 ft) and by the time I got to the top I knew I'd made a bad choice. I hobbled down the mountain. I ended up losing some toenails!

When I returned them to (now defunct) Sport's Chalet I said that if they didn't take the return, I'd take the Merrells out to the parking lot and set them on fire.

They did refund my money even though they had been used.

I never had that happen with Hi-Tecs. I do have a terrible time finding comfy shoes. My feet must be weird!

Oboz are on sale at REI.

I have the hiking shoes and they're fabulous!

ETA: And I like a wider toe box. I hope you find something that works.

Thanks Linda, I'll have a look!

They sell Oboz on Amazon, but I'm leery of fake products there in recent years.
