I'm so sorry you're going through this!!

From what I've understood, flexibility and strength are both key.

Maybe you have a strength imbalance somewhere?

I've been doing CS regularly for a while now and have been noticeably more comfortable in my own skin.

Donna - let us know what you think of the DVDs! Sounds like a lot of us need to work on those tight quads/flexors and I'm interested in everyone's experiences. I've only been using Mobility RX for a few weeks, but I am in love with it. Using it to work on my tight hips/quads seems to be helping manage the hamstring issues I've been having.

My favorite hip flexor stretch is a class off of doyogawithme.com led by David Procyshyn called Hip Flexor Heaven. You can find it here:

https://www.doyogawithme.com/content...lexor-heaven-0

I love it for two reasons: first, he does a really good progression to slowly work you into deeper stretches. Second, he focuses on flexing your glutes and I found that really helps me stretch out my hip flexors.

I've found this has helped my lower back a lot. It is 35 minutes, but he spends the 1st and last 5 minutes in savasana, so you could easily skip that and make it 25 minutes or so.

Tina,
Thanks for posting that Dean Somerset article. Very good stuff. I am off to do some planks!

Mark Lauren's Mobility Rx workout is worth getting. I posted a breakdown of the workouts in a thread last month.

I have been doing a short mobility routine from Eric Cressey where he coaches engaging the glutes when doing a quad/hip flexor stretch. This has been very helpful. Never thought of it before. Here are the drills:

That hip flexor heaven routine looks good.

I was absolutely gobsmacked upon reading that article, myself!

I had never, ever thought of something so counterintuitive ...
in the era 15 years ago when sit-ups seemed to help me, I'd got into variations on those ... but, I think as you get older you stiffen, you learn to tuck in your stomach too hard, you don't think of ab strength as being so important (it gets to be about upper body resistance or stretching your neck), and tightening the tush is not something you want to do either ...

so planks (while being very difficult for me) make you have to reflexively tighten your rear end ...

Thank you for the YouTube link to Sam Visnic! Glad to have found him and have subscribed to his channel.

What has helped me with my hip issues, including strengthening my core after an injury that laid me low for an entire year was and still is Pilates on a Balanced Body reformer and this strange object called The OOV.

Another vote for Pilates. I have had tight hips also for years. CS, almost daily, helped some, for awhile.

About 8 weeks ago I started doing Pilates on almost daily basis (and no CS). Pilates has made a huge different in flexible and strength in my hips, as well as my core. More Than Mat Pilates, Advanced is my favorite, but there are many other great ones out there.
