Suggestions for DOMS in Legs

Hi

Happy New year everyone. I did Cathe's High Reps last night with my new barbell. Anyway I have pretty bad doms in my quads. Any suggestions for a good anti doms or soothing workout?

Thanks
Laura

Hi, if it's really bad (can't walk), you can mix 2 Tablespoons baking soda into 32 ounces of water and sip on that all day. Baking soda breaks down the lactic acid. Also, if you take branched chain amino acids as a supplement, they help repair the muscles more quickly. Or eat beef, has lots of the stuff muscles need to repair themselves. Hot bath with epsom salts, whirlpool jets, massage and extra sleep also speed up recovery. Best of luck!

I usually do very low impact kickboxing. I found that kicking really help... I think the blood flow breaks down the lactic acid. I either use Kick Max (drills only), KCM Kickboxing Kicks Premix or MMA Fusion. No jumping...

HAHAHA!

I usually turn to walking when I get Monster DOMS of the legs. Going downstairs will kill the most. Start off slowly and you should soon start feeling a bit better.

Going through this myself. I am glad for the suggestions.

I find just walking walking walking helps, too.

Desie, wow, great info.

Try foam rolling, too. It hurts when you do it, but feels great after.

This suggestion is from the Wharton's Stretch Book, but has to be done right after exercising before DOMS sets in. They recommend an ice bath to keep the inflammation reflex from developing. I have found that the ice isn't necessary. I start with cool water and gradually make it colder. It doesn't completely eliminate DOMS but helps a lot. I know that many Tour de France riders have ice baths at the end of their racing and training days.
