People don't return anything, I find, unless you ask for it back.

Yes, this describes me, too. Clutter is pretty much the only source of stress in my marriage--DH is quite wonderful, he's just such a packrat!

Since late summer I have declared war on my kids' toys. There are FAR TOO MANY, so I've been surreptitiously giving away stuff they no longer play with (if they see it leave, they'll declare the baby rattle their absolute fave toy ever even though they are 4 and 7, so I have to do things on the sly. Once it's out of the house, they never miss it.)

I try to minimize paper, toys, clothes, kitchen gadgets, you name it, but I do love my DVDs and fitness stuff. As a friend of mine said, 'ah, so that's your porn!'

I do need to get rid of some, though. There are DVDs I really never, ever do. I don't know why I'm holding on to them... <sigh>

I can't do step anymore, in my condition(s); and I have not for decades. But one of the benefits of being an audiot rather than a vidiot - is that I've a major number of 8 count/32 bar non instructional step aerobics music mixes ... some of them I have seamlessly repurposed for other workouts ... yeah, audio cassette tapes ...

In part, having been addicted to step aerobics starting in my early 40s in the mid -'90s, had given me orthopedic problems in a mere 3 years, problems for which I've needed prescription orthotics; and I now have a bit of a limp, too .... /// I had already blown two tape decks ...

I only lend workouts to forum friends and my mom and brother. I haven't lost a lot of workouts to lending but outside of the people listed above the loss rate is nearly 100%. Not cool. The thanks I get for trying to help people who asked to get fit! Harumph!

So happy to know someone else has repurposed her cassette tapes! I use many of mine (not fitness tapes, just popular music) for my improvised walk workouts. It's such fun! (Most of my CDs are either classical or jazz, and the tempos aren't quite right for exercise.)

All this is to say--I've generally found it prudent to err on the side of retention rather than decluttering.

Isn't that the truth?!

Ah, I went through my collection the other week and have a pile of DVDs sitting here at the desk to list on Amazon or the exchange, but have no motivation. Lesson learned from the past - I'll likely end up buying some of them again down the road. It's so difficult to weed through, I am so low maintenance in all other aspects of my life!

I hate selling! The money is nice but it's too much pressure for me. People want pristine merchandise, which I don't blame them, but all of my stuff is used and I have listed it as such. Overall I've done fine but the few times when people weren't happy made me nervous. I just can't be bothered. I will sell on the VF Roost board on Facebook though, or on Ya Ya's, or if the DVDs aren't in demand I'll just donate them.

Does anyone else sometimes use a dvd BECAUSE it makes them laugh?

No way I'd get rid of some of mine, just for the fun of it all.

I'm not naming any names or pointing any fingers, but sometimes I pull out some of my oldest workouts just because I find the clothing and hair such a riot. It's a wonderful distraction from the work part of the workout.
