PowerFit Harmony - not THAT easy!

I ordered these from Mary because getting the whole 10 DVD set for under $20 seemed like a great deal (I know, I missed even better deals). I love 20 minute workouts that I can add on to a Leslie mile or two. From what I read on here I was expecting some really easy beginner workouts but after trying Strong Pull I must admit I disagree.

The bands that are included are super short for one thing - I couldn't even do the laterals with the short purple band she uses - had to switch to my regular Leslie band.

I did use the stronger, green band for back work which seemed just right, and the purple one was perfect for everything else.

To me the only thing really easy about this workout was the short length of time.

Am I the only one?

I haven't tried these because the general consensus that they are "beginnerish" have kept me from buying them even when they have been very reduced.
Maybe this thread will convince me otherwise, because I generally like band work for a change, and 30 minutes is perfect for me.

I agree, Sara! Like most strength work, it can be what you make it and yep, the bands are short enough that they can create a real challenge! I would say these can verge on intermediate, I've never thought they were totally beginner. They move too fast, for one thing. And if you crank up on the bands you can absolutely get a good all-around workout in!

I agree. Too many people are quick to poo-poo short workouts or band workouts in general. I'm a firm believer that if you put your mind and effort into something, you can be rewarded whether it's 5 minutes or 50. Sometimes we all need a little humble pie!

I agree! I've always felt it isn't a certain system that gives results.... it's what YOU as the person doing that workout that decides what results you get. If you put your all into it ... major results.... if not..... well... you see where I'm going with this!

Plus I LOVE band workouts! They hold that static contraction that you don't always have with weights.

I also agree that the Power Fits are not truly beginner workouts. I can see true novices having a hard time with some of the workouts because of the brisk pace and the upper body/lower body combo moves. Some of the balance moves could also be frustrating to a true beginner.

One of my personal faves is Strong Pull, and yes those shoulder raises with the band are tough! I also like Chest, Triceps, & Butt from the original set - I really feel the glute work on all fours and my triceps get darn close to failure at least once during the workout. I always feel my 20 minutes were well spent after those two workouts.

I agree! I don't think they are totally beginner. I put a lot of effort in and get a get a good workout and feel *so good* when I am done. Love them!

The choreography alone is enough to turn off a true novice. I had lent out my original Powerfit workouts to a beginner and she just couldn't do it.

I think that the Powerfit series is very versatile--a person can really up the intensity using a strong band, adding a step or higher intensity moves to the cardio workouts.

A couple years ago I did Powerfit for a month with walking and don't feel I lost anything fitness-wise.

Are the 3 different Powerfit sets different enough to get all three or is there something else out there similar to these ?

Original is broken up into 3 muscle splits with a cardio and a core workout. Harmony is 10 workouts with splits but the slipts are now push/pull/and I think upper/lower with a couple of cardio and core. Plus is a total body with a kickboxing for cardio. I found benefit in having all 3 sets. Mary is having a sale for the 4th of July, I'd bet she'd have these on sale at that time. I got all 3 for $20 some time ago and I've seen that same deal since (when combined with her discount code).
