TracyQ, I am so proud of you for telling him he was rude. I probably would've been speechless. He sounds like one of those self-entitled clods who believe that "telling the truth" justifies hurt feelings. I would imagine that his wife has been conditioned to accept this.

I'm so glad you were able to get back out on the water, hurrah!
I'm glad you did what you could to indicate that yes, his words were rude. Having been on the clueless end of things, it can be very helpful to simply be told why one ought not to say whatever it is. On the other hand, does this so and so have any idea how hard the past year has been for you? Does your husband? They both sound clueless, and I guess I wouldn't let it rest til it was totally clear to them both that their words and attitudes were way out of line.
