electric kettle

Does anyone here have an electric kettle? It's supposed to be faster than the stove or microwave but also safer.

TIA

I have had an electric kettles for probably 8 years. I recently had to replace the first one. It is probably faster, but as it iis about the only way I have heated water for the 8 years, so I am not a good judge of how fast it is.

The reason I bought it is that I am famous for turning on the water to heat and than getting involved in something in the house and forgetting that I started the water heating. I have boiled the tea kettle on the stove dry many times. So than in that way, it is safer.

I use a variable temperature electric kettle so I use the correct temperature for the type of tea I brew.

Depending on the amount of water to be heated, the kettle is faster than either the stove top or microwave.

Pam, I can understand why you would want one!

I would most likely not heat more than a cup or two of water.

Thanks for your responses.

I have one almost identical to this one, but it is Russell Hobbs brand. I really like that it is cordless and has auto shut off:

I've had the Cuisinart kettle - similar to this: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/stor...tle/1017391690

for several years and have been very pleased. Speedy in heating the water, and will cut off automatically. I purchased mine from Macy's when it was on sale and I had a coupon.

Another person guilty of letting a traditional kettle boil dry.

Bodum kettles are the best

I got my daughter one of Bodum's hot water electric kettles back when she was moving into her college dorms.

I got her the 34 oz kettle. She has used it daily for almost four years. It's fast, reliable and it shuts off automatically after it reaches boiling and also if you leave it alone and it boils dry.

Once I saw how cool her kettle was, I got myself a 57 oz kettle. Love the dang thing & I have been using it twice daily for 3 years.

I use the Utilitea, the one Alta linked to. I like that it has variable heat settings for different types of tea. It's not super precise on temp, but good enough. I'm the only tea drinker in my house so I like that it's on the small side. It heats very quickly. I set it up, measure out my tea, get the pot ready and the water is almost ready. I also like the automatic shut off.

I'm amazed at the disparity in the reviews! Someone loves each and every one but others say they don't last long. There are so many from which to choose!
