People like me (with long legs) work on this with blocks under the hands. And then as I swing through I cross my legs at the shins (my teacher training instructor Jonathan's advice). Really helped. I think my anatomy would make an unassisted jump through to sit pretty near to improssible.

Since I don't do ashtanga, and do very little vinyasa or vinyasa-related yoga I don't work on this very often. Once in a while, for fun.

Agree with Sophie about chaturanga -- almost everyone can get it eventually, baring certain injuries. I was able to get it eventually, even after a shoulder dislocation. Again, hands on blocks make this one much easier and more stable for most people.

I used to hate them too. But doing planks and triceps pushups regularly really helped a lot. As somebody said the position of your shoulders are very important also holding your butt. In a weird way now I truly welcome them.

I looked at the Jill Miller. I'm all set. Thank you. She does not click my button. It's going on the SASE list.

Here's a short instructional video that teaches you how to do a chaturanga properly. I didn't know what they were!

yes, that's part of what I was having a problem with now I guess it's the part where. When she comes up from it, she lifts herself up, and some kinda way, her feet end up next to her hands, on the mat.

Don't ask me how the heck they do this jump through but I thought that was the chatarunga thingy. lol

yes I can/could do this, but you know what.... I got other things to learn to want to do then that move. It's in too many yoga videos and when I see it, I pass.

the one also where they fold completely over, head is just about touching knees and then they jump back with both feet, then she'll say now swing your right leg up to the front, in between your arms???? NOT!!! (shaking head) that's not fun to me at all.

Thank you for the cool link.

er....so you were actually asking about the jump-through, not the pose chaturanga itself?

I guess my bad. She goes from Chatarunga to the jump through. or she is in the downward dog, then the chatarunga, then another jump through, bringing the legs back up to the hands. Just difficult to me. for me.

Are you able to just step your feet forward one at a time instead of jump? In a lot of the DVDs I have they say "step or jump".

Yes, I can't imagine a case in which you couldn't substitute.

Agree, it's absolutely standard to step back or forth instead of jumping.
