Is there a video to suggest to get into shoulderstand and headstand somebody that learn Yoga just from videos ?
Also a video very into splits ???
Thanks !!!
As for inversions, there is Yoga Journal vol. 3 Inversions (it has an explanation track and a flow-ish track). It goes beyond Shoulderstand and Headstand though. Check out descriptions of these poses in books and online (at yogajournal.com) because they're supposed to be learned in a class, so to make up for it, I tried to look up all the info I could. I've since done them in classes, and my form / approach didn't stand out as being wrong (the instructors approved).

As for Splits: I have Sonic Yoga Flowing into Splits. This is a long practice and it's tough. I think there is a review posted in the reviews section. The last 20-25min are geared towards splits, so it's by far the best dvd I have for focus on splits.

I think the Sonic Yoga DVD may indeed be the only thing going for hanumanasana. I don't much like the Yoga Journal DVD -- it's really too sketchy. Two I like for shoulderstand are Rodney Yee Yoga for Strength (Session 1 does shoulderstand and headstand preps) and Yoga Shakti -- nice handstand forearm stand segment and good shoulderstand segment tool. Shiva doesn't do headstand -- she thinks you should get that from a teacher. I tend to agree.

ETA: Rodney Yee's Intermediates is very good for inversions.

And -- Erich Schiffmann's Backyard Series: Inversions is great for a heastand/shoulderstand intensive if you are already semi comfortable in those poses.

Thanks so much, maybe this should actually be a separate thread.
The Mary Pappas is one and the same -- the "weight loss" seems so not appropriate I just can't bring myself to type it.

Erich's videos are indeed available on Erich's site: movingintostillness.com. He does all the photography, burning, shipping etc.

Tilak is also his own thing.

You should be able to find the Om Yoga stuff at amazon.

My only award

audio- jivadiva podcasts. www.jivadiva.com If you aren't interested in yogic principals, try her older stuff. Her newer stuff incorporates a lof of chanting.

Allanna the jiva diva offers a series of free podcasts. She covers a huge range of subjects and has some very straight forward yoga practices. She also has lectures on yogic principals and chanting, meditation. You name it, it goes from athletic all the way to spiritual

Her regular 20 minute practices (really more like 30 minutes) often include poses that are too hard for me (or I'm not interested in doing - putting my leg behind my head is an example), but I've found a lot of practices I really like. She usually starts with very fast paced sun salutations (lightning speed) and then moves into other poses and often includes splits and/or headstands. None are for beginners, even the beginners practice because she doesn't break down every pose.

One I think people might like to check out is the yoga for people with Repetetive Stress Injuries. Don't expect a restorative practice, just one where you're not on your wrists - no up down dogs.

Hey can someone do a review for Paul Grilley's Yin Yoga? I am intrigued by the whole Yin Yoga concept.
