Arrow The Results are in for the 2006 VF YOGA VIDEO AWARDS!

Lately I have gotten way into yoga, which is good for a vidiot but bad for the wallet! I have also found myself recommending videos to all sorts of different people both on forums and in “real life”. I have suggested things to people that I haven’t even done because they are popular on VF and I haven’t tried a lot of the different forms. I realized that maybe some of the videos that I am recommending aren’t even that popular, but they are possibly mentioned by the same people who post often (I personally am always trying to enable to people to jump onto whatever bandwagon I am currently riding.)

So I had this idea and I hope that you can all help me out. I thought it would be really cool if we could do the VF Yoga Video awards. I am going to make a huge list of everything that I can think of that I would recommend to people and then fill each category of which tape I have and like the best. I am hoping that everyone will do the same. Even if you only have one yoga tape and you love it (or one that you hate!) please add your votes in. You can use the same tape for as many categories your want. Leave anything blank if you don’t have one that you love for the slot. Once (hopefully) a lot of people have responded I will tally up the winners, and some honorable mentions in some categories and people can refer to it for giving out references and their own use. And it will be fun, I promise. Just please vote!

Here are the categories (PM me if you think I left out anything)
You can highlight the list and hold down ctrl (or the apple key) and
“c” to copy and then start a new post and hold down ctrl and “v” to paste the text and then just type your responses.

Please try and pick only one for each category

We should just have a VF VIDEO AWARD...

We as members should vote for all the fitness DVD's over the course of the year. Just as the Oscars. We should break them all down categorically, i.e., kickboxing, hi/low, AWT, Cardio/Weights, Yoga, Pilates, Dance, Strength Workouts, step, core, favorite instructor, etc. It can start small, and then one day evolve into a real award show, with all of us showing up....

Boy, I am really dreaming here.....

Icey, I have often thought about posting such a thread around Oscars time regarding the previous year's releases. I think we very well could do it this year, as a number of instructors have put out new releases, and a few others have or will be rereleasing videos.

Stephanie, give me some time to mull over your choices, and I'll be back to post them!

I'm going to vote for just a few categories now, but I may come back and do more as I think of them:

Vinyasa (slow) AND Best Music: Tilak Pyle, Yoga: Altar of the Heart
Best Savasana: YZ Yoga for Flexibility & Stress Release

Here's another cateorgy suggestion: Best for TTOM

Beginner Video: Erich Schiffmann's Backyard Series: Beginning Yoga (although Eoin Finn's Pure & Simple Yoga is a good one, too)
Most Versatile: Hmm, tough call between Body Wisdom Media's Yoga for Every Body and Shiva Rea's Yoga Shakti
Flexibility: Karen Voight's Yoga Focus - stretch
Power (faster): Eoin Finn's Power Yoga for Happiness
Vinyasa (slower): Shiva Rea's Yoga Shakti
Ashtanga [haven't tried one]
Iyengar [haven't tried a true Iyengar video]
Restorative: well, I use Rainbeau Mars' Pure Tranquility and Kathleen Anderson's Yoga in the Garden of Serenity, although they're not technically restorative...
Kundalini: Ravi & Ana's Ultimate Stretch
Wake Up: either Ravi & Ana's AM Yoga or Rise & Spine from Beginners & Beyond
Before Sleep: Ann Dyer's ZYoga (too obvious! )
For Stress: hmm, maybe Tilak Pyle's Altar of the Heart
Meditation: Erich Schiffmann's Live #2
Yoga Inspired Dance: Shiva Rea's Yoga Trance Dance
Strength Builder: probably Total Yoga - Fire
One that you learned a lot from: pretty much all of them! There was a ton of information in my first two DVDs: Body Wisdom Media's Yoga for Inflexible People and Yoga for Every Body.
Best for someone obese [not sure]
Best for someone looking for a straight up workout [not sure]
Best short practice: hmm, hard to choose - maybe Baron Baptiste's Yoga Bootcamp Box's 20 min. Vinyasa Flow or Eoin Finn's PY4H Quickie
Audio: Eoin Finn's free downloads (Tragically Hips, Honey, Winter, Quickie)!
Book: Erich Schiffmann's Moving into Stillness, followed by Miriam Austin's Cool Yoga Tricks

Favorite Instructor: Erich Schiffmann (although I do Tilak Pyle, Eoin Finn, Shiva Rea, Katy Appleton...)
Favorite Scenery: White Sands (Erich Schiffmann's Ali MacGraw - Yoga Mind & Body, Gloria Draper's Full Moon Yoga, Shiva Rea's Yoga Trance Dance and soon to be Fluid Power Yoga)
Best Music: Tilak Pyle's Altar of the Heart
Best Savasana: maybe Katy Appleton's Geri Body Yoga

Wouldn’t recommend this tape to anybody [haven't really found one that awful]
Your number one most used tape: Eoin Finn's Power Yoga for Happiness
Your number one favorite: Tilak Pyle's Altar of the Heart

For TTOM: maybe Body Wisdom Media's Yoga for Inflexible People (must try that Ateeka CD soon!)

I reserve the right to change my mind on any or all of these!

Beginner Video - I don't remember which one I used...
Most Versatile - Yoga Sanctuary (I don't like navigating the Yoga Shakti matrix, but don't mind making playlists in Itunes)
Flexibility - Eion's PY4H (my flexibility needs are the hips)
Power (faster) - Bryan Kest orginal Power Yoga series
Vinyassa (slower) - Shiva Rea's Yoga Chant or Yoga Sanctuary
Ashtanga - don't have enough to compare
Iyengar/Restorative - I don't use Iyengar for Restorative...
Kundalini - Ana and Ravi's Warrior
Wake Up - Ana and Ravi's AM or Sattva Fitness 30min Yoga Routine
Before Sleep - Pure Tranquility
For Stress - I like Ana and Ravi's Fat Free for when I'm stressed
Meditation - Drops of Nector (although I got it recently)
Yoga Inspired Dance - Eagerly awaiting Ana and Ravi's Dance the Chakras...
Strength Builder - Pleasure of Strength (I like the 30min version)
One that you learned a lot from - Strength and Spirit
Best for someone obese - not sure..
Best for someone looking for a straight up workout - Eion's PY4H
Best short practice - Baron Baptise's Core Power
Audio (I've put my favorite audios above - I don't differentiate)
Book - Erich Schiffmann's The Sprit and Practice of Moving into Stillness

Favorite Instructor - Ana Brett, Ana Forrest, Baron Baptise
Favorite Scenery - Yoga Radiance (I don't like outdoor scenery that much)
Best Music - Mantra Girl
Best Savasana - Total Yoga Fire

Wouldn’t recommend this tape to anybody - probably wouldn't generally recomend Kabbalah Yoga Advanced
Your number one most used tape - Core Power, Warrior, Yoga Sanctuary, Yoga Chant, Total Yoga Fire
Your number one favorite - probably Warrior or Yoga Chant

Great idea to do this thread!

I just wanted to vote that Shiva Rea is awesome! I'm not too much into yoga but I really like Yoga Shakti and Yoga Trance Dance is awesome! The prana yoga feels so good the joints and muscles. I also like the music.

The Ali McGraw workout is good too.
