Barefoot & On The Mat 7/21-27: "Beat the heat and have some lemonade..."

"Beat the heat and have some lemonade...Oh!
Someone please make it for me, please come to my aid.."
-Nupur Mathur NX

Welcome to the Barefoot & On the Mat (aka Mat Mavens) Check-In!

This check-in is a small and very welcoming group of people who enjoy a variety of workouts, but have a special love of those performed barefoot. So if you regularly incorporate Yoga, Pilates, Barre, CS/Essentrics, or even do traditional strength and cardio sans shoes, come on in!

Some weeks we can get chatty, but don't let that stop you from joining us. We love hearing from new, returning, and guest Mat Mavens! Everyone is welcome!

Roll out your mat, kick off your shoes, and join us!

I'll be back in a second to post my week.

Ooooh, some lemonade would hit the spot right now!

Garrie, thanks for starting us off this week!

Linda: Hope you are doing okay. Please check in with us when you are ready.

I'm not posting last week's workouts. Early last week I somehow tweaked my left knee while exercising. It is slowly improving, but it is still stiff and I cannot yet walk as easily as I usually do. This incident is causing me to rethink how I work out. It does feel like some of the things I do are no longer as effective as they once were. I'm planning a fitness "reset," taking everything down to the basics and rebuilding. Stay tuned!

Waving to all -- be back later with today's workout!

It's supposed to cool down a little bit this coming week, at least in my area. I'm looking forward to it (and lower humidity!)

Here was last week for me. Today I complete my last CLX Burn workout, and on Wednesday I will begin the Push phase.

Sunday:
CLX Extreme Intervals (from the Deluxe set)

Monday:
CLX Burn Circuit 3
TAUGHT Step class

Tuesday:
No workout

Wednesday:
AM: TAUGHT Cardio class and helped with Senior Wellness
CLX Burn Circuit 1
PM: Helped out with Fit for Life

Thursday:
TAUGHT Barre & HiiT classes

Friday:
CLX Burn Circuit 2 (with my new adjustable dumbbells)

Yesterday:
Tracie Long Reboot 2 (1st time, subbed this for CLX Burn Intervals and Ab Burner...I loved this one much more than Reboot 1.)

Beth: Eight people is a great turnout considering the heat.

Carolyn: I'm glad your implant procedure is going well!!

Paine: Not counting classes I teach, on days I work out at home I usually average around 45 minutes to an hour a day. Right now since I'm doing CLX, I'm averaging 35 to 40 minutes for each strength workout and 25 to 45 for the cardio (not counting the ab and stretch add-ons). The Push strength circuits will be shorter, averaging around 30 to 35 minutes per day.

Sandra: Hope your left knee continues to improve this week. I'm looking forward to reading about your "fitness reset."

Waves to all!

Garrie, lemonade sounds delicious right now and you inspired me to make some! Thank you for starting our week.
I used to workout 1.5 hours a day but I don't workout that long anymore.

Garrie, I saw that you first posted on last week's thread. Are you noticing anything from your CLX rotation?

Sandra, hope your knee is continuing to heel! I would like to hear from Linda too.

Paine, sometimes I think I should limit my workouts to <1 hour and see what happens...or do all yoga...or do all unweighted work...there are just so many options, which is why I generally do more of a mish-mash!

Be right back with my week.

I wanted to add that I signed up to take a yoga ropes class in September! Some of my friends from YTT are going too, so I think it will be fun. Here is the link if you're interested in reading about it:
https://www.facebook.com/events/2233472896965182/

I also discovered these classes called "YoMassage"--it's restorative yoga taught by a massage therapist who gives you hands-on massages while in the poses! I wanted to go on July 31st but it was full, so I hope to check it out some time in the future.

Just finished:
CLX Burn Circuit 3 (and the Burn Phase is now complete! )

Beth: That YoMassage sounds heavenly! Clumsy me started the week in the old thread. Yay for the new AC! You had a great week. So far, I haven't noticed much in the way of visible results from the CLX rotation, except for some added definition and firmness in my arms and shoulders (some being the operative word). More than anything, I've gained a lot of strength, using heavier weights than I've ever used before--for example, squatting with 25 lb. dumbbells in each hand, bicep curls with 17.5 in each hand, and by the end of Burn was doing all the push-ups on my toes. I saw strength gains each week. Keep in mind, I still have two more phases to complete (Push followed by Lean), which from what I've read here at VF and other sites are the months where the real changes occur (especially Lean). I'm doing CLX mostly for a change of pace from my usual Cathe, Firm, and KCM strength training.

Beth, that yoga ropes class looks interesting! I want to hear all about it if you try it.
YoMassage sounds fun too. I think I would like that.
It's shocking that you have to go back to work in one week! Your time off work went by so fast.

Yesterday I did my PT homework. Since tripping over the litter box on July 5 I've been examined by 3 PT's. They agree that my hip flexor is strained. The third PT took away all flexion exercises except the ones I do at home. He said my quads are so tight they pull on my kneecap which is why I complain of knee pain. The tight quads could be why I strained the hip flexor. On Tuesday I have my eval with him and on Wednesday I see the surgeon. Hoping I don't get discharged from PT for several reasons.

Sandra, I hope your knee feels better soon. I'm using the cane again because of the knee pain.

Beth, when they say to be careful with hip extension with an anterior incision, they mean it. I lead with my left because before surgery, leading with my right pulled out my SI joints. I must retrain my brain. Thinking of James Knight

Garrie, by the end of CLX you'll have a new body. I'm patiently waiting for this heat and humidity to go away.

Paine, I used to love Windsor Buns and Thighs workout. Maybe someday I'll be allowed to do it.
