First Workout in Two Months

Hi guys - I posted a while back about having been hospitalized for a sepsis blood infection, and having to wear a PICC line for five weeks. You all gave me amazing support, advice and feedback.

I just did my first workout. The PICC came out Saturday. I did Leslie's Miracle Miles 2-mile walk. It was just perfect for me. Just enough exertion to get a light sweat going, and light toning work.

My cardio capacity doesn't seem to be too bad, as it did feel easy in that regard. But a spot in my lower left back and my left shoulder, which is where I experienced excruciating pain due to the bacterial sack pushing up against my spine, are still a little sore. Not pain, but twingy.

It just felt so, so good to get my body moving again. It will be a long time if ever that I fail to appreciate fully my video collection that includes beginner workouts that I need right now, and to appreciate being able to work out.

Aside from walking workouts, any other suggestions for helping me build back up?

I don't have any specific advice, but wanted to say how glad I am you're doing so well.

Do take it easy on yourself. Slow and steady, right?

So glad you are OK, acey and congrats on your first workout. i wonder about some gentle yoga, walking outside as well as inside. I always like to do easy dancey workouts when I am recovering from something (fun, but not too difficult) if you like that sort of thing...not everyone is into the choreography of that. I always keep some easy workouts on hand for those times. I have never been as sick as sepsis though so am afraid my recovery workouts still might be too much for you. What kind of strength work do you like to do? Also you might like classical stretch.

Congrats on getting back to your workouts! I reached for Jenny Ford workouts when I was getting back to exercising regularly. She has tons of stuff on YouTube so I'm sure you could find something that would work for you. Just take it slow at first. I think you might be surprised at how quickly your body bounces back.

Yes! Congrats on feeling recovered enough to begin working out again Acey. I would suggest maybe adding gentle yoga, like Jane Adams (or something appropriate on Youtube) and slowly taking it from there.

Glad you are doing better. People forget that sepsis can kill you quite easily.
Glad you made it through.

I'm so happy for you that you're out of antibiotic treatment.

This may sound counterproductive, but when I was struggling with upper body issues I used my weights videos with no weights. Just following along and feeling the muscles work that way. (I use Margaret Richard and KCM for weights, not stuff with benches and barbells.) As I got better I'd add light weights here and there and build up.

Hope that helps.
