SELF: How Long is Too Long to Skip a Workout?

This was reposted in Map My Fitness's (UnderArmour's running app) newsletter today:

"How Long Does it Take to Get Out of Shape?"

For me, the first workout after a break always feels amazing. It's the *next* one that does me in.

I thought they made some interesting observations about losing strength vs cardiovascular fitness. I'm not sure I totally agree that "after four months you've lost enough to put you back at beginner level..." BUT they also didn't note that fit people tend to gain back their strength/fitness much faster than true starting-from-scratch beginners. I know it doesn't take me long at all to ramp back up--even after a loooong break.
