Yes, thanks for the laugh Daphne

I can always count on you for a good belly laugh.

Lynn-I love Stash's licorice tea. I usually have it mid-afternoon and consider it a treat. Yummy!

Body is not a machine

Your heartrate responds to many things besides exertion. It responds to how much sleep you've had, what you've eaten in the previous 24 hours, how much stress you've had, what youre mood is, etc.

I actually read one book that said you should do the exact same workout when you're alert and rested, and again when you're tired and see how it affects your heartrate. It WILL make quite a difference.

hormones/monthly cycle

A year or so ago, I started to notice the same thing. Sometimes my perceived exertion just didn't match up with what my heart rate monitor was saying. As I thought about it and watched it for a few months, I started to see a correlation with my monthly cycle. I actually tracked it in my log for 4 or 5 months. Right before my period started my heart rate would get high very easily - I could EASILY maintain the higher end of my training zone. But then the day my period started I could BARELY get into my target zone. It stayed that way for a few days, then went back to normal. What I am saying is that for the few days before and right after my period starts there is a HUGE variance between heart rate and perceived exertion. But the rest of the month they correlate quite well. Now, I just wish I had some explanation for WHY that is....

maybe it's just me....

But if the endorphins REALLY kick in, my heart rate can be higher than my perceived exertion. When I'm tired though, I feel like I'm exercting myself just to get out of bed!

heart rate/metabolism/sweat factor???

I'm also interested in the relationship between sweating (due to exercise) , metabolism, and heartrate. Sometimes, I'll be sweating up a storm, thinking that I must be in a high heart rate zone, but I'm not.

Also, if you sweat a lot from exercise, is your metabolism higher than if you don't (everything else being the same: state of health, room temp, clothing, etc.).
