Crone Cronies-Coincidence: I Have Firewood. My Neighbor Lost an Adirondack Chair. 8/7

The Cronies is a place for women who are mature in age or attitude. The group is highly diverse in that we have ages ranging from 30s to 60s, some are moms, some are single, some are teachers/professors, and some have jobs and work outside the home and some don’t. We do our own thing and are happy when life doesn’t get in the way too often. Some are training for a marathon, some don’t even do vids, you get the picture.

Life and exercise are what we report. A thread is started every Sunday. Some report every day, others whenever they can.

Bottom line: we are a diverse group and very supportive of each other’s goals. Oh, and we’re funny as heck. If you’d like to join us, just come on down.

I got an earlier start than usual this morning and got the kitchen cleaned up. Soon, we'll attend church virtually. Other than that, we don't have much on planned for today. I hope to relax while maybe getting a thing or two done. I believe it's what Anita would call putzing.

Paula - I used to make that recipe as a cake. I'd put it in a Bundt cake pan and serve it as a full cake. But it was hard to get slices out of, even with spraying the pan. (My pan was beat up.) When I made that recipe again recently after not having made it for years, it occurred to me that it didn't have to be in one piece and so I went to looking for whatever smaller pans I could find that could go into the freezer.

Vantreesta - What a combination of allergies your friend has! I tend to put mushrooms in everything, so I'd really have to watch it.

Anita - I'm going to miss your post as I'm on when you are. I'll respond later.

Thanks, Laura, for the new set of titles for this group thread!

Good morning!

Yesterday's circus performance was wonderful! I met one of my old coaches also! No rain was falling for this performance also, so we were able to use the outside to relax between the two halves of the show. Afterwards we went out for dinner and I got a reuben sandwich and a good beer . We did get some rain in the morning and should be getting more this evening - we need every drop, but not the inches of rain coming down south of us - hope they don't have flooding! I'm hoping for a walk today. Otherwise putzing.

Vantreesta, glad you're enjoying Paula's fudge recipe! And hope Laura's ice cream cake works out for you also! Sorry, I'm not much of a cook to share recipes here - my recipes are more open the box, put it in the microwave for the number of minutes it says on the box, and eat!

Laura, I think I'd try your ice cream cake, but maybe use cherry or mint ice cream instead of vanilla - it would be delicious with the chocolate mix ins.

Paula, Hope the 3-in-1 works for you - seems huge in the pictures! In a way I'm hoping the co-op project would be done for move in in spring 2024, not in the middle of winter. I think with these delays, it might occur. I don't want to be trying to sell my house with the gardens under snow drifts. I'll definitely make the 62 age qualification though then!

Waves to all!

Anita - I'm glad you had such a nice time with circus friends at the circus performance. At the same time, you can hope for more rain and enjoy it not raining when you're out and about. That basic recipe for the ice cream cake could be modified endlessly, and people could choose whatever tastes good to them. Good point!

Good evening. Workout this morning was Pahla B Body Shaping day 27 Walking with Weights and a neighborhood walk with DH.

Grocery and food prep day. I spent the morning shopping and the afternoon cooking. I made a big pot of lentil soup, steamed some aspargas to eat cold, and some pasta salad. Then I did some gardening and now I'm tired.

Anita, thanks for getting us started. Enjoyed the theme, as usual. You and Laura are so good at coming up with themes each week. Glad you enjoyed the circus performance and had fun with your friends. The 3 in 1 purse/tote is huge - as I said it's larger than I need. I just couldn't find anything else I thought would work. Even if I find something smaller, I think I'll keep the 3 in 1 bag to use as a travel back pack - I like all the separate pockets. I hope your area avoids the heavy rain. I like easy meals too but I make big pots of stuff to freeze and reheat in the microwave most nights. It's my way of having easy meals most of the time and home cooked food too. It does require one day a week of cooking and food prep to keep some variety in the freezer. I like your idea of making Laura's ice cream cake with different flavors of ice cream. Coffee ice cream might be a winner - mud pie in cake form. Hope your move time line works out.

Laura, I can see how making that cake in a Bundt pan would be hard to get it out of the pan. I wonder if you used a loaf pan and lined it with the non stick Reynold wrap if you could lift it out easily and cut it in slices?

Vantreestra, we all want to know how the fudge and ice cream cake woked out for your gathering.

Good morning!

It rained last night! Nice soaker for the yard - birds are singing happily today! I got some yard work done yesterday - enough to make a carload of branches and weeds to the compost site. I did mow my back yard - first time in about 6 weeks! There was long soft grass in the shade - almost up to my knees, but floppy, several weeds knee height, but sunshine grass hadn't grown at all. My front yard is all the crunchy grass that's not growing. I hope this will survive and come back when rains come, otherwise I'll be scattering grass seed out there. I also went grocery shopping at Trader Joe's. I still might stop by a grocery store today to pick up some other things. Today is supposed to be a bit cooler - looking forward to that! I'll go for a nice walk before hitting the grocery store. Spades might happen tonight.

Laura, yes, you're putzing . I didn't see your first post until this morning!

Paula, Laura comes up with the themes for the titles here - I just cut and paste - that's about my skills in the morning . I have to avoid putting stuff in the freezer for a while - it's stuffed full of TJ boxes! Mmmmm, coffee cake with Laura's recipe sounds good also!

Waves to all!

Good evening. Workout this morning was Travis Eliot Full Body Yin Yoga. We flew to Santa Paula with a friend, did some walking and went out to lunch. Had a nice day.

Anita, just you and me tonight. Glad you got a soaker of rain that wasn't destructive. Funny how your grass was so long in some places and not growing at all in other - micro climates even in your back yard. Trader Joe's has some of the best frozen food don't they. DH and I both have our favorites.

Today just melted away. This morning, I went to the YMCA and got in a pretty good workout.

This afternoon, we talked vacation ideas. I recently realized (a) that my MIL's surgery for which we will go to WV won't' be until the latter part of September or the first part of October. That means that we have time in the immediate future to go on vacation and (b) coincidentally we have an open week in about 3 weeks in which we could go. So, I told DH about my idea to go to the low country in SC. However, he felt like it the length of the trip was longer than he could assume he could recover from before going to WV, if it happened in September. That is actually a good point. So, we talked other options and then I spent the rest of the day investigating.

I looked at Elizabeth City, NC and rejected it because I couldn't find a good place for us to stay. Then, I looked at New Bern, NC but left that because I wasn't sure if it was a good enough place. Then, I looked at Winston Salem and felt like it was meh, so-so, not very exciting. Then, I looked at Boone/Blowing Rock, NC and was set to choose a place, but then I wondered what their COVID positivity rate is now - 26%. So, I circled back to New Bern (16% positivity rate, lower than our area), pulled up the two places I had found, and I'll make a decision tomorrow. One thing about New Bern is that it's less than an hour to the beach, so if we get bored, we can head east and see the ocean. At this point, I really don't care where we go as long as it's someplace we can relax, enjoy ourselves, and not be at home.

Paula - My loaf pan has some non-stick surface on it. I've found that the ice cream cake comes out easily if it has some non-stick stuff or you spray the pan first. Putting in some kind of liner first would work as well, I'd assume. Anita and I have worked out the perfect solution. I come up with themes because that's easy for me, but these days starting the thread on Sunday moring is almost impossible, but Anita doesn't seem to find that hard. It works!

Anita - I'm thinking about going to Trader Joe's tomorrow as well. I'm getting low on their cheese and frozen stuff. I hope you get the rain that will bring the ENTIRE yard back!

Good morning!

I'll be going in to a jeweler to get some old jewelry, coins, and silver ingots looked at and sold - some stuff will need to be forwarded to other specialists to look at. This is jewelry from mom that I would never wear, coins from my dad (keeping one for memory), and gifts of memorial silver ingots I used to get as a kid. I just don't want this stuff... Otherwise, planning on stopping by the bank, walking and just enjoying the outdoors. No Spades game last night. Oh yeah, I have to stop by the grade school and vote in the primaries also.

Paula, so what's your favorites at Trader Joe's? I like the Indian frozen meals, but they are out of many of my favorites there - love the spinach with cheese meal , but it hasn't been in for several months... I don't know if they've quit having that meal .

Laura, Asheville, NC, was a city I visited years ago when I did a REI bike ride vacation out there in the Blue Ridge Mountains - I liked that town! I like our partnership opening threads here on Sunday mornings - high five, Laura! Between Saturday and Sunday night rains, we got a little over an inch total here - certainly will help, but not cure lots of the drought. I've got a flowering bush in the backyard that's kind of dying off - don't know if water would save it at this point...

Waves to all!

Well, I figured it out later last night. I was looking at New Bern and things to do in the area and found that Beaufort, NC was close to it. Beaufort is where we went on our honeymoon and we have always wanted to go back. The inn where we stayed all those years ago had one room left, a good one for us, and I grabbed it. It has a balcony overlooking the main street and the water and the dock where the boat tours meet and we plan on taking one. It is so nice to have something nailed down!

Today, I will go to Trader Joe's and we have 1-2 loads of laundry to do. And, I'm figuring out what to cook for both of us. Yesterday was all about travel planning and the gym. Today is catch-up day.

Anita - Yeah, we had a lot of rain for 10 days and since then it has been hot and dry. We need more rain again. I hope you continue to get rain - and not just short term! We want to go to Asheville in November or December and see the Christmas lights at Christmas. It's a great town. I grew up going on vacation in that area and really like it.
