Obsidian Fitness Reviews (slide board and DVDs)

Hi!

There is an active thread that started out being about Ultraslide, but there are posts in there reviewing both Ultraslide and Obsidian Fitness, which are different products by different companies. So, to separate them out and eliminate some confusion about the slide boards and workouts, I thought it might be helpful to have a separate thread just to review Obsidian Fitness

I'll cross-post the Obsidian Fitness reviews that are in there already. Apologies in advance if I miss any.

Then he transferred me to to Patrick, who I asked if I could order all 10 DVDs without the board. He immediately said, "Sure! We didn't think of that, we should create that as an offer on the web page."

We agreed that $99 for all 10 DVDs would be a good deal, plus $6.95 standard shipping. I gave them my cc number and soon the disks will be mine!

So - look for it on the buyobsidian.com site, or call them and say you're from VF.

Disclosure - when I negotiated the price, I said I would post it here and they might get more orders. Everyone wins!

"Hi Rhonda,

I found out that the studio made all the DVDs this way. They have the capability to do the “pressed” DVDs but we did not know enough to ask. Please keep this email and we will replace your DVDs if they breakdown or not work in the future (no limit). Also, we are working on creating the ability to download the workouts from our site so you can have access to the original digital files on your tablet and phone if you like (free of charge). This project is still a few weeks out.

Also, if you prefer, we will send you the pressed DVDs when they come available on our next order (which we expect will be 3 months from now). They say that is the soonest possible. Please let me know and we will do whatever we can to assist you. Thank you for your support and patience. We hope you enjoying the workouts in the meantime. "

So I will definitely keep the e-mail and decide later what to do. I don't mind DVDr it would just be nice to know ahead of time.

Lower Body Workout Review - from zraipel

There was only one segment of just sliding, but all of the other moves that were done on the board were quite challenging. Having the sliding surface made my muscles have to work so much harder to do each move. I feel it the most in my inner thighs for sure. The whole workout was about 30 minutes long, including warmup and cool down. It may just be because I've never done any sliding workouts before, but it definitely got my heart rate up.

I definitely understand wanting more sliding vs. circuit type exercises... sliding is fun!! I will probably get some of the Ultraslide workouts, I just don't have a good method of viewing downloaded workouts. I can definitely see myself just sliding to music or while watching TV.

I do think the Obsidian DVD workouts will be very effective, and there are a lot of options with 10 DVDs. Over the next week, I'm going to see how I can work them into some kind of rotation with other workouts. I'm thinking maybe 3 sliding workouts, 1 Kettlebell workout and 2 boxing workouts a week. Not sure yet though But all in all, I do think I will get good use out of the slideboard. I don't think it needs to be any more slippery than it is, and it seems like it will hold up well. I stored it rolled up last night and had no problem flattening it today. For the price, I am very happy with the purchase

...also feeling the workout in my abs right now

ETA: olala, you definitely have to wear shoes, with the booties, for this piece of equipment. I love working out barefoot, but that's not possible with the slideboard. Without shoes it would definitely hurt the sides of your feet, but with my shoes on, the ends did not hurt my feet at all when sliding into them. I hope you end up liking it!

Also ETA: I can see this becoming addictive. I feel like I have a runner's high... what I imagine to be a runner's high because I hate running, lol! I feel like I can push myself harder than usual with this, and I don't see it being dread inducing. I know everyone else will have their own likes or dislikes, I'm just glad it ended up being money well spent for me

We will see.

" Thank you for reaching out with such a great question. To answer your question, the board is shipped to you in the rolled position, but when you take your board out of the box, it naturally wants to lay flat. So if you let it lie there for about 15-20 minutes, it will become flat. If you want to speed up the process, you can reverse roll it slightly at the ends and it will lay flat for you. We have made it this way so you can use the included nylon strap to roll it and store/transport it where you need without taking up too much space, if needed. "

Board reviews - from zraipel

It did come rolled up, and in the instructions it states that it may take an hour for it to completely lay flat. I'm helping the process along by anchoring the ends with hand weights and it seems to be flattening out quickly. It comes with a nice strap with strong Velcro to wrap it up with if you decide to store it rolled. It also came with some good quality booties and hand covers.

It is 5' long, which is what I was expecting. I am 5'5", and have no prior sliding experience, but with some experimental slides while it's anchored, it seems like the length will be fine. I won't know for sure about this until I get further along into the workouts, but I feel like it should be sufficient. It's too late now for me to try a workout, but I will definitely do one tomorrow. I did get all 10 of the DVDs. There isn't a suggested rotation, so I will have to just see what I can come up with.

The product seems to be of good quality. Granted, I have nothing to compare it to, but it does seem well made. I have low pile carpet but most of the time I imagine I will be using the slide on top of my memory foam rug -- which is awesome, btw, it's where I do most of my workouts!! The slide has a foam like padding on the bottom that keeps it from moving around, and again, I just did some experimental sliding on it, but it didn't move at all when I tried it, and my memory foam rug has a fairly slick surface, so that's a good sign.

I can't wait to try a workout tomorrow. I don't know how coordinated I will be at first but it definitely looks like it's going to be a fun toy!

ETA: I've only had it anchored for about 20 minutes and it's already laying flat unanchored.

It's definitely something I think will get easier with each use. I really liked the challenge of it, though, and I think it caused me to engage more muscles than just doing the workout on carpet.

I think the length will be fine, because I can get a full, quick stride while sliding that doesn't quite make it all the way across if I get lazy, so I still have to work a little for it. If it was 6', it would make it more challenging to get across, but I think 5' will still give me a good workout. I can see myself trying to match tempo to music while sliding

I did use the slide on my memory foam rug (which is on top of carpet) and the board did not move at all. The rug is a slicker surface than the carpet, but still soft.

I'm glad this is at the price point that it's at. Of course I would love one of the pro-grade ones, and I'm sure they are worth their price, but this one should fulfill my needs for now

I just checked and only the Beginner, Crazy Abs, and Pure Cardio DVDs were pressed, the rest are DVDr. Like you, I don't mind, but I know some people do, so it's helpful to know.
