This is a great thread! I wonder how I would be able to find someone in my area that could help my husband with this. I wonder if that is his problem???

Question

So now I am interested in trying this. What exactly is a certification in fascia called ? And what should I look for in a provider ?

There isn't a certification in it, although many massage therapists, body workers, and yoga teachers (just to name a few) teach and practice with the intention of altering either the structural or functional nature of fascia.

Lannette provides some interesting links in support of therapies of that nature, while the original article NoraKate posted is purported to be a critical analysis of the current state of fascia research. Lannette rightfully questions the author's credentials in his ability to critique the research.

I have quite a bit of interest in this topic and have (surprisingly) read most of the articles some time ago. My non-scientific and experiential conclusion is that the nature and function of fascia is still not well understood, and new research continues to change our perspective on it.

But therapies and practices that purport to treat it, like yoga, body rolling, massage, etc, generally result in some benefit in terms of pain relief and improved function, even if we do not completely understand WHY, and whether or not fascia itself has been altered. So I keep doing those things anyway.

Isn't that how science advances? By people challenging accepted beliefs?
