Tracie Long Longevity

Not wanting to hijack another thread. Is Tracie Long's Longevity series high rep/low weight? TIA

I have used the Longevity series and her Focus series, in addition to the Reboots and Stronger Longers, for the past few months. I would classify the Longevity series as low weight/functional fitness/compound moves with a nonexhausting cardio effect (for me, anyway). What draws me to these is that she doesn't rep you to the point of boredom and you break up each side with other moves. There are some impact moves, but honestly, I can actually do them as they aren't like other high impact cardio that just wipes me out. I rarely go over a 7 pound weight in this series, and most of the time stick with a 5 pound dumbbell and 5 pound medicine ball. Zero dread for me, and that's saying a lot...

Hi Lori, I saw your post and that's what made me take a look at these. I have never been interested in them in the past. I watched some of the video clips and they didn't look bad. Keep in mind, I have been known to stop a video as soon as I see them pick up a weight. LOL

ETA: Does Tracie have a rotation calendar for this series?

I never thought I'd be interested in these either, and now, I do them nearly every day! Too many reps, heavy weights, and high impact just wipe me out, and now that I'm over 40, finding functional fitness that makes me feel good is what I need. There are some with high impact, but for some reason, her high impact moves don't make feel like I've run a marathon; I think it's because she include the right amount of recovery time and includes a lot of hip stretching, which is an area I always need to stretch.

I'm sure there are rotations somewhere, but I don't generally follow any. I never know my work schedule, so I just do what I have time for. The Longevity series are usually around 50 minutes, and the Focus series is 30 minutes. I read somewhere that she often encourages people to do cardio-interval-cardio-interval-cardio in one week, and then weights-cardio-interval-weights-cardio-interval (or something similar) the following week. (I have to base my workout schedule on if I have time to shower or not that day!)

Here is a rotation using her Longevity series.

I would say some of them are low weight, but to me these are more moderate weight-moderate reps AWT-functional fitness blend. Not high rep-low weight the way a lot of barre and fusion workouts are.

Yesterday I did Leaning Out (my fav Longevity) and I used 10 and 15 lbs, dropping to 8 for one or two exercises.

I like her stuff because I feel good afterward and not worn out.

Thank you -- this is exactly what I was trying to say but somehow couldn't find the right phrasing! I forgot that some are heavier weights, but I often don't go over 8 pounds, or 10 pounds if we're not using them for very long, and what I like is she generally tells you the right weight to pick and how heavy she's using, and the length of time we're using them.

I only have a 4 pound medicine ball for the cardio, and it does the trick. I agree, it's not the high rep/low weight of barre, but it's lower weights and less reps, and moderate cardio. Her Stronger Longer ones are tougher with heavier weights (I still don't go above 8 or 10 though), and those I have to space out with lighter workouts in between. I love love love the Reboots and the Figure 30s, too.

The music is fairly nondescript, but I don't even notice it. I think some are repeated in various ones. Leaning Out is probably my favorite of the Longevity, and Breakthrough is my favorite of the Focus series. I don't know why I never got into them before now, but my son says it's because I'm now old and that's why.

Kids!

Bubbles, could you please tell what the "RCH" on the rotation posted by Sharon means? TIA

Hi,

AsSweetAsSugar - I think that is "Reach" which is her yoga/stretch focused "Focus" workout.

This thread has me thinking!

Lori - do you have a particular rotation you follow w/ Tracie's workouts - as I recall you also do fusion (Ellen) and CS/Essentrics. How do you mix them up?

I ask b/c you sound a lot like me - I find if I do "traditional" weight training I become very achey and stiff - so I do a lot of fusion-y stuff and CS/Essentrics. Impact doesn't bother me too much, but I couldn't do a steady diet of it.

I have a pretty big collection of Tracie Long's workouts, but haven't done in them in awhile and I'm sort of stumped about what to do next (I have been doing Jessica's Summer of Strength Challenge and it ends this week)

Any recommendations for how to get started/mix and match?

Donna
