I keep reading stories of people who have tested positive for coronavirus or are suspected to have it and have been told to self isolate and they decide to go out to a party or a conference or some such nonsense. REALLY? How selfish do you have to be???

I haven't really stocked up on anything or done anything different. Chicago hasn't really been hit hard (yet), and the stores seem to still have supplies. I'm in the habit of when I walk in the door from being out the first thing I do is wash my hands thoroughly. You don't know what nastiness you've inadvertently touched while out and about!

I usually stock up on sale items when I can and store them in our garage. I normally shop weekly for what we need but bought extra this week in case we need to stay home for two weeks.

The BJ's Wholesale I went to this week had put a limit of two on certain items like paper products, soaps, and household cleaners.

Trader Joe and Aldi have had a lot of items that are nonperishable and freezer friendly, in addition to toilet paper (although TJ's toilet paper can take some getting used to if you're used to the softer stuff!). Nothing in terms of disinfectant stuff though, but TJ's does have aloe gel.

I think Amazon might be restocking some off the off-brand and Amazon brand hand sanitizers now. I received an alert since I set it up to be notified if they're back in stock. I missed ordering it, though others may be successful if you're able to order it right when you receive the notification. Also Lowe's, Home Depot, Menards, and Ace Hardware will let you place an order on back order if you call them.

I find that the more I think about it, the more I do it. Same with coughing--I don't actually have a cough, but when they mention it on the news, suddenly my throat tickles.

It reminds me of "Typhoid Mary" in the early 1900's.

http://https://www.thoughtco.com/typhoid-mary-1779179

She was a carrier of typhoid, but had no symptoms. She was a cook and after it was determined she had spread the illness to others, was sent to an isolated island for years. She was later released on the promise that she would not seek employment as a cook. She did go back to being a cook and knowingly infected more people. She was again isolated until her death.

A more recent story is of a man I worked with at a former job. He knew he had AIDS but never sought treatment or told anyone what he had. He was married and sleeping around. A friend had the horrible task of contacting all his partners to tell them he had died of AIDS.

I really, really don't understand people.

I saw on the news a story of a guy who had a daughter that had been possibly exposed to the virus. The family was asked to isolate at home but instead the dad took one of his other daughters to a father/daughter dance at school. The first daughter did test positive, so the dad has caused lots of problems.

I have a good friend who is supposed to be taking the family on an extended Italian vacation in 4 weeks. He said not everything he’s paid for is insured so he will lose between $5,000 and $6,000 if he cancels.

My friend is an exec for a restaurant and was called by a customer who said she ate in his restaurant and she has the virus. He asked her if she had a copy of the test results and she said she never had a test, so he asked her how she knows she has the virus then. She said she emailed her doctor with her symptoms and her doctor emailed her back and told her she has the virus.

I feel the same way. I work at a law firm and you would think these professionals would take the time to wash their hands. I can't tell you how many times I've been in the stall and heard someone come out, after doing number 2, and walk right out the door without as much as turning on the water, let along washing their hands. Ewwwwwwww.

The only real result I've seen from this was at church the other day. Most of our congregation is elderly, so at high risk to start with. It's Lent and normally we'd use some pottery chalices and serving bits for communion, but they switched back to silver, wouldn't let people dip their own wafer in the wine, etc. Caused some confusion, but people do understand.

Not sure how this will play out as things progress.

I went to Walmart to buy a bunch of stuff the other day and there seemed to be some tension in the air.

Given how many retirees live in the area I guess everybody's on edge.

We live in a hurricane prone area, so being prepared is part of life.

I didn't get water jugs, I just don't see the point. If things get bad enough that the water treatment facilities shut down, I guess I'll be in trouble.

From what I've read, though, for most people this will just be a respiratory illness much like others they've had before. The difference I guess is that this one is so contagious most of us will get it eventually, and might already have done so without realizing it.
