Converting VHS to DVD

Hi Everyone,

I need to bite the bullet and have some VHS converted to DVD. I remember that a VFer here offers this and I can't remember who it is to save my life. If someone can let me know who it is then I can contact them about this.

Has anyone had any experience with a place like Costco doing VHS to DVD conversion? I read in my Costco flyer that they offer this service through their photo department but I couldn't find out if they would do it for OOP VHS due to copyright stuff, etc.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Sabine.

I tried the Costco route before and you are right, they can't do them because of the copyright.
There was someone on here who's husband teansferred mine but I can't remember the VFer's name. I'll try to find it, or maybe she will see this and let you know.

I've seen software for this at Target, don't know if they still sell it or not. You'd have to connect your vcr to your computer. You might try a place like Best Buy and see if they could tell you what you'd need to get this done.

In case you don't find anyone you could buy this. Expensive but maybe worth it if you have alot.

Read the review on Amazon (under most helpful first) by G. B. Packert for simple directions on how to accomplish this.

And some blank DVDs. Spindles do not come with a case.

My husband has done this for a ton of people here at VF. I don't know anything about it. If you PM me your email address, I can have him email you some general information. He does it just for fun.

If your VHS player still works (and you have a computer with a USB input), you might want to try this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then, you have the video as a file on your computer and you can either burn it to DVD or convert the video to something you can see on an iPad.

I did my own with a capture device too, then loaded the video file into software & created menus, pre-mixes, and chapters. My capture device cost me $70. The VHS player lives on my desk with a monitor on top.

I did it with a $6 capture device
But it was really hard to get it working needing a new driver, etc.

Helen and Barb, what capture devices did you use? I have some VHS lying around that I'd really like to convert, and I'm looking for options. Thanks!
