Red face My shocking, appalling and egregious fitness failure!

I am still wearing really, really old shoes for cardio. I wear these antique New Balance model 623 V.1 shoes, probably older than some VFers. I know better, having worked at a Lady Footlocker store decades ago.

How can a rational adult commit such a fitness crime? Well, New Balance discontinued the shoe last that fit my foot perfectly. I cannot tell you how many different brands and sizes of cross-trainers and aerobic shoes I've tried on over the years. Many recommended by VFers!

I'll order different pairs form Zappos or Amazon, try them on and send them back.

I'll NEVER throw out my old NB 623s. They never hurt my feet. My toes don't get squished. My heels don't slide out the backs. The sole is actually in decent shape as I have never worn them outdoors.

Don't shame me!!!

I won't shame you. I am quite proud of you for coming clean.

If I felt the same way about my trainers, the way you feel about yours I would wear them until they fall off. loudly and proudly.

I wonder if that is the model I have? Are they leather? I still have mine and use for when it's wet out and I am out with the dog in the yard or walking in the winter. They are still the best shoes I have ever owned and still are supportive and comfy. I think I bought them about 15+ years ago!! It's hard to find good sturdy athletic shoes anymore. The overpriced light weight mesh material shoe, is comfy and all, but they don't last long.

Not gonna shame you Alta. I too wear ancient sneakers, and for the exact same reasons.

Me too. The only thing I ever do is to change inserts if the old ones get too flat and worn out. The sneakers however stay.

I also have ancient workout shorts and athletic bras, and I mean ANCIENT. I got 2 sets about 25 years ago (Champion brand) and I just wash and wear them, over-and-over. I have no need or deisre to get anything newer or fancy. They're still in amazing shape!

Nope, no shame from here either. I hung on to my Ryka Intensity XT3's for years (bought three pairs, that's how much I loved them) and wore them until the soles started falling apart. I haven't found any shoe that can compare, and I've tried many. They were like old friends.

I still have 3 pairs of New Balance Minimus Life shoes from 7 years ago. There just isn't anything else like them. Even my daughter keeps "borrowing" them! NB is about the worst when it comes to discontinuing anything I like.

If your feet don't hurt when you wear them while working out, why get rid of them? I usually get a new pair of trainers when I start experiencing foot pain with cardio, which seems to be every 6 months or so depending on the types of workouts I'm doing. Then I move my old trainers to the closet for dog walking shoes!

I still wear my Ryka's from 2009, my spandex leggings from 2008, my sports bra from 2007, and a nasty t-shirt from 2005 as my workout gear.

I never put any of them in the dryer, and they've lasted 10 years!

I know what you mean. I have an older pair of New Balance shoes and nothing has compared since in terms of comfort, fit and quality.
