VERY interesting documentary

I just watched a very interesting documentary by the BBC called "The Truth About Exercise" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2293699/

Has anyone else seen it? They talk about HIT and NEAT (nonexercise activity thermogenesis) and how some people are "nonperformers" when it comes to improving aerobic capacity while others are super-performers.

If you have a chance, take a look at it. Surprising data.

A friend sent me this not too long ago. Haven't seen it yet, but sounds interesting.

I've seen it and it's excellent. Among other things, it supports why a little bit of HIIT is so important.

It's worth a look.

Yes it was mentioned here last year. I watched it, as did other VFers. I thought it was very interesting and well done.

Great program. I want those Fidget Pants!

I'd also like to get that DNA test to see if I am a nonresponder. Do you think that is available in the US?

I watched this a year or so ago and found it interesting.

Here is a link by the channel that produced the show that gives a little extra information: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-17177251

I think it had a good message that people respond different to exercise, and ideally recommendations would be personalized. But in my opinion, I differ on whether aerobic exercise has no benefit for him. If I recall, wasn't the genetic test predicting whether his VO2Max would improve? Yet he was also concerned about insulin sensitivity since diabetes runs in his family. The combination of hiit and increasing his general activity helped with insulin sensitivity but didn't improve his vo2max. Does this really prove that other aerobic exercise would not have hlped with vo2max? And what about other benefits of exercise beyond improving vo2max? Sometimes the way I've heard this program referenced it sounds like people only need 3 minutes of very intense exercise a week. Yet he took a couple walks a day and also did some cycling. And it says only 20% are non-responders to improving v02max from aerobic exercise. So 80% of people still benefit. It is good to see validation that one size doesn't fit all though. And I think it is a well done program. Sorry just thinking out loud.

I watched this last night and I agree with everything you said. He did Hiit 20/10s for 6 rounds 3 times a week. His insulin improved, he actually could do the VO2max test longer. Even though his graph was moved over, the interpreter (who did not look to be fit at all ) said it was almost exactly the same. And I was envious that he was burning 17 calories a minute running 10 minute miles.

Bottom line seemed to be- do something.

Thanks for the link! It's been airing here, but not on a channel we go to regularly. Have seen only a couple because we stumbled on them, never noted the day/time slot.
