For those who grew up in the tri state area

Long before Xm radio and sirrius, pandora or I heart radio.... there was: WABC out of NY city.

And Harry Harrison was a big part of that.
He passed recently:

I have a very vague memory of him on my parents' car radio in the 1970s.

Gosh yes!
I remember his tag line as it was sung... "Haaa-ryyy Harrison!!"
I remember Ron Lundy too.

As I was getting ready to go to sleep I was JUST thinking last night about his tag line and actually can still hear it in my head!

And, yes, I remember Ron Lundy as well - I did not remember that he passed almost 10 years ago.

I think Dan Ingram was part of that crew at WABC at that time too right? He may have passed, I don't recall.

I think you're right? I just remember waking up in the middle of the night, scared, reaching for my husband then checking on my daughter. It settled into my brain!

Wow, I remember WABC on the radio in NY. Haaa-ryyy Harrison!! I also seem to remember Dan Ingram ("Ingram, Ingram....") and Cousin Brucie. Sad to hear this, it's the end of an era.

Have to admit, I'm really a WLIR/WDRE girl.

I so wish I could have gotten in WLIR/WDRE! I lived in central NJ, so we couldn't get those stations in. I went to college in northern NJ, but it was at the same time that WLIR went away. We had WHTG, an alternative station from the Jersey shore that was pretty good.

Have you seen the documentary on WLIR called "Dare to Be Different?" It was excellent. It was on Showtime. I don't know if it is still on demand through there. It had been on Amazon Prime, but it's gone. I love a lot of bands that were on that station! I still go see The Alarm
