I like Balega, too, particularly the Hidden Contour. I like their Hidden Comfort for around the house, but not exercise-related stuff.

As far as the contour sock (tighter around the arch) I've found a similar fit in a Walmart sock. Not sure the brand. Maybe Avia.

Thank you so much everyone! I’ve ordered a few different brands for him to try.

I have wide feet and bunions, which interestingly enough do not cause me any pain. So, I'm leaving them alone. But, I need a good sock that is thin yet strong. These fit the bill:

Swiftwick's aren't cheap - about $15 per pair - but I love them!

I came here to specifically post about Swiftwick. By far my favorite running socks and worth every penny.

Thanks for the Swiftkicks recommendation. I found them on Amazon Prime, so I'm going to try a pair.

I like Thorlos too. The most cushiony sock I've ever worn.

My current favorite running socks are Bombas, because my main foot problems when running are PF and heel blisters, and Bombas have mesh support in the arch to help with the former and blister-prevention tabs in the back to help with the latter. No cushioning anywhere except in the heel tab, but they're so comfortable.

I had always thought runners were divided into two camps, those who preferred Thorlos and those who preferred Wright socks. I'm in the Wrightsock camp. I have very wide feet with bunions and sensitive skin. I would constantly get blisters until I bought my first pair of Wright socks from Road Runners Sports.

What is great about them is that the socks use a double-layer construction so you've got a sock with a liner. Thorlos were too rough for my skin, the Wrights' inside layer is like silk to my skin. Also, the inside layer is always white, no matter the color of the outside layer, which I like as it keeps your feet free of any colored fuzz -- though there is no fuzz with the Wrights.

The only con, if one can speak of a con, of the Wright socks is that they do not wear out, they do not wear thin, at least in my experience and the experience of friends who I got on to Wrights. Also, I get my cushioning from orthotics.

Good luck with your choices!
