I Have Never Tried Gilad!

I posted on another thread about Gilad's latested releases, but I don't want to high jack it, so I thought I'd start a new one.

Yes, I have never owned a Gilad workout. I'm not sure why,.. in all the years I've been working out. But now I'm curious. I'm not interested in downloads or streaming, so his newest releases are out for me.

I would appreciate title suggestions to check out. I previewed a couple of his 30th Annv workouts and they look interesting. Opinions and thoughts on Gilad would also be appreciated.

TIA ~

The only Gilad workout I have tried is Arms of Steel. It's a winner all the way.

It uses dumbbells only (plus a chair for triceps dips). Keeping in mind the lack of equipment used, it's very thorough--it's an entire upper body workout except for abs. It hits biceps, triceps, shoulders, chest, back, forearms, and rotator cuffs. This workout was marketed to men, but I've been using it for years.

Gilad is an excellent instructor--good cueing, motivating, no chatter that gets old on repeated viewings. The music is not the greatest, and it's an old workout, but it is still extremely effective. It's 45 minutes long and has never come out on DVD, but it is available on YouTube.

Gilad also looks great in this one.

I tried Gilad for the first time last year. I got hold of the two "Total Body Sculpt Plus" DVDs, and although I tried some others later, those first two are still my favorites. They are from longer episodes of his TV series; each DVD has two 45-minute workouts. What I liked about them vs some of the others was that they use dumbbells and the cardio is more drill-like whereas some of the others were somewhat dancy.

Gilad!

I like:

Arms of Steel (VHS and YouTube), 40 minutes
Step & Tone (4-limb stepping with weights), 70 minutes but easy to split up. I use 3 lbs. and my arms feel like they want to fall off at the end of the step section. Also includes unweighted lower body work similar to Karen Voight's Lean Legs & Buns, plus abdominal work.
Sculpt & Tone (total body weights), 65 minutes but easily divided into sections...I do squats and lunges in place of the calf work. I use 5s and 8s with this one and really feel it (even though I go heavier with my Firms and Cathes).
Cuts & Curves (total body weights and tubing), 60 minutes and best done all together (since the chaptering is warm-up, workout, cool-down)

I also have his Fat Burning Workout, and Hips, Abs & Arms Toning VHS tapes (aka the 45/45 Split Routine) but don't enjoy them as much as the ones above. The Fat Burning is good, basic choreography that doesn't take much room while the Toning is all unweighted toning work. The lower body work (standing and floorwork) is good, but I don't like the upper body section at all (as some of the moves are a little hard to use weights with).

Recently at Goodwill I found his 1993 Abs Workout on VHS. I'd really love to try the Quick Fit series (mainly for the sculpting workouts), but it's a little expensive for me at the moment.

I have every Gilad workout available on DVD, plus I own his Total Body Sculpt streaming videos (30 complete ~23min episodes) from Amazon - a bargain at $25! I used to love doing one every weekday morning, I may get back to doing them! And I still love his sister's one DVD, Basic Training.

I like all the ones recommended here plus others. That said, he repeats many of his exercises in almost every DVD so you don't really need that many. The Total Body Sculpt Plus DVDs that Laura recommended (there are 3, each with 2 complete 45min workouts) are a good choice, and you'd only need one. On Youtube there are lengthy clips of all his DVDs and it's the best place to start. Enjoy!

I like Gilad but haven't kept a lot of his dvds.

He does tend to go back to his roots, so if you have knee issues, be wary of his "dynamic" segments (which are twisty and torque-y and reminiscent of shot put/discus throw movements).

I like his Express set for variety and adding-on.
