This thread reminds me of the VF Firm threads of yesteryear re: the scourge of "turnip thighs".

Never figured out what they were, but oh well...

I remember lots of threads about this, years back --
I'm dying to see a picture of someone who actually had this happen to them, because I've seen it described many times but I can't quite picture it!

Back in the day (pre-kids) I did Firm workouts exclusively and most of them included tall box work. I have a bubble butt naturally, but I have to say that now that I *don't* do the workouts as much I can see a difference - and it's not positive. Let's just say gravity is now taking it's toll on my backside. I'm trying to gear myself back up into tall box work in an effort to reacheive strong, round glutes.

Spongebob butt? No. Squareness was not an issue for me. Round was -and I want it back.

ROFL - I totally missed that discussion! Maybe because my DD had just been born, so my biggest fitness goal was to get a whole night's sleep and stop bleeding.

And I still can't figure out whether a "square" butt is flat, or a shelf.

I remember reading those threads way back. It was hard to picture but I took it to mean a square shape viewed from behind and or a high tight backside close up to the hips.
For myself with a natural flat pancake backside, the FIRM tall box worked wonders at the time. A girlfriend once told me I had such a nice shape there which encouraged me to keep going with the FIRM. The FIRM was my almost exclusive type of workout for a long time and no problems at all. it was the first time that I worked out with weights for most workouts. Glad I did it.

I recall it being called this, too. I did not experience that, either, with consistent use of the Firm workouts (the Benson or post-Benson).

I *think* it referred to a ridge-like appearance to the top of the butt..? Like from overdeveloping muscle there... am I wrong?

I think so (squarish look vs. lifted), it did not sound like a good look to have/develop.
