It has been 14 years since my full hysterectomy and I chose no HRT. It was rough at first going through full blown menopause. Many years of constant hot flashes, night sweats, poor sleep, and weight gain. I still get a rare hot flash. Seems like it happens when the seasons change. But, I feel so much better now than I ever did. The symptoms do taper off over time. I'm working on getting about 10 pounds off, but I am not overly concerned about it. So, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I hope those of you who are suffering with intense symptoms can ride it out. It is hard, I know, but it won't last forever. Hugs to you all.

I did buy and read this book per your suggestion this past summer. I felt like the book was very geared towards younger women dealing with cycles and childbearing, infertility, and cycle regulation...good background info and help for younger women in their childbearing years. Not as much for perimenopausal and menopausal women though.

I'm getting a lot of help from a friend who dabbles in homeopathy and am considering some other alternative (not mainstream, that is) practices.

And, I can't recommend enough dialing down the workouts. Our bodies are under enough stress as it is during this time.....they need gentle.

Everyone is so different. I'm sorry that so many women are suffering. I didn't sail through menopause, but it wasn't totally unbearable. Puberty was a thousand times worse than menopause.

For me, menopause was like getting out of jail. For decades, from the age of 11, I suffered from Endometriosis. I had my first (of many) surgeries for it at age 19. Almost every period was an excruciating, sometimes debilitating nightmare.

I'm more than ten years past menopause now. I lost any weight I gained. I do have some bone loss though.

Menopause is wonderful. I love it. No more periods.

I don't have hot flashes or nasty symptoms that other people have.

It is my belief that eating raw vegan and juicing keeps away the symptoms.

Several years ago I had an emergency hysterectomy. It made me a mess emotionally and with hot flashes. Within a couple of months all symptoms were gone due to my diet.

Others who eat the way I do also are symptoms free. What you eat makes a difference. I take no medications. Life is good.

Rosepetals, it is great that you have found your answer for menopausal symptoms. But, as I wrote, we are all different.

Naturally, we can't go in to diet talk here, but believe me, I tried everything under the sun for my Endometriosis pain. Diets, supplements, eliminating many foods - none of that helped a bit. I did get some relief with acupuncture. And, finally, menopause.

Has anyone tried acupuncture for menopausal symptom relief? Did it help at all?

I tried acupuncture for menopausal symptoms. I only did 6 sessions. For me, it didn't help my menopausal symptoms but boy did I ever have some of the deepest and restful sleeps during that short time.

Ah, menopause. Just when you're about to be free after 40 years of periods...one last kick in the teeth. For me the insomnia and anxiety were the worst. I felt so terrible with so little sleep that I just quit exercising. I could not motivate my tired old self. The problem now is that menopause ate up all of my bones. The result is "severe" osteoporosis. I have a genetic predisposition plus the no exercising didn't help. Really, don't stop exercising whatever you do and however you feel. I fell in the shower last November and broke my hip and arm. I'm only 58 so that was not fun.
Sounds like you're doing all the right things, Tina. Good luck. It really does suck.

I'm in peri right now and I'm discovering that HIIT workouts just leave me spent and not feeling great. Silly me got sucked into the hype of HIIT workouts being "THE" workout to do. There are plenty of workouts out there that are gentler and still effective.

Ohhhh I am sorry to hear of those suffering through these changes, but this thread has been shedding some light on my situation.

For me, cycles are still somewhat normal...but I have PMS symptoms when I shouldn't, feeling sad/anxious often, losing LOTS of hair, belly bloat but minimal weight gain, (but LOTS of weight shifting...) and loss of energy for workouts. I am still exercising but it feels SOOOO much harder than it used to. And of course...the dreaded facial changes. I dont recognize myself anymore. I am almost 46, and realizing that this is probably all perio.

Just realized yesterday that some nausea I've been experiencing is probably related to menopause. Will be tracking to verify but it never occurred to me before.
