Pulled Neck muscles from Cathe

This is the second time for me now that I have pulled muscles in my neck from using Cathes Hardcore Series. I can't look to the left at all. I just don't get it , as I do all her other workouts. So what do ya all think? I am guilty of slackin' off then jumping back in. I am thinking it is from the CoreMax. I'd like to hear if anyone is or has experienced this. I also fractured my left shoulder almost 2 yrs. ago, so that is also a factor. I am a lurker so I hope this does get posted, dumb as it sounds. Just curious and wondering is all!

Twiggy,

Why do you think CoreMax is responsible for your pulled muscle? Are you pulling on your head rather than using your abdominal muscles? What Cathe HC workout did you do the first time you pulled your muscle? Was it CoreMax as well or another one? Hope I'm not asking too many questions, I'm just wondering what specific workouts you're doing and the exercises they contain that may be causing this.

You mentioned that you fractured your left shoulder a couple years ago. Could the pain be from pushing or pulling too hard on that side during shoulder exercises? Can you feel the pain right when it happens while working out, or not until afterwards?

Hope I haven't scared you away and you go back to lurkdome. I'm just trying to figure out what exercise may be the cause of your pain.

Twiggy - yes, what specific workout were you doing when you pulled the muscle? That is important to know because there are certain Cathe workouts that I have that give me problems ( I have to be carful with side plank twist things in ME for example and I had to sell Low max because that one hurt my knees but her other workouts don't bother me.)

If you think it's Core max - the only thing I can think of is what Dena said - are you pulling on your head? Make sure that you are initiating the moves from the ab and keep your neck supported with your hands behind your neck.

I know that doing the wood chop crunchs on the ball can be uncomfortable on the neck because your head is not supported. Also, do you think you may be pulling a muscle by straining to see the TV while doing the move?

Like Dena said, the more info you give the better someone can help you.

I pulled a neck muscle a few months ago while doing bicep curls. My daughter came in the house, called my name..when I turned to look at her, I hurt my neck. Give it a few days rest and call you doc if it does not get better.

My doc ended up putting me on 2mgs of Valium twice a day for 10 days to relax the muscle...shoot I was all the way relaxed...neck muscle and all!

Sore neck - me too

I can't do any of those side planks with the twists since
they stress my neck no matter how careful I am. I just
eliminate any exercises similar to those .

My neck has trouble with her GS workout. I think it's mostly the bands, but my neck will be sore for days afterward.

I've suffered from a sore neck off and on for quite a while, which I attributed to ab workouts. When I finally got it checked out, it turns out it was from shoulder problems. It very well could be related to your old shoulder injury. Might be helpful to consult a sports medicine specialist if it persists. Good luck with it!

Thanx to all for the reply on my sore neck. It feels better today. I do support my neck with the CMax series, but ya know, my hip flexors get real tight too. I am gonna go to my PT and get see if I can learn some more stretches for my shoulder, as I only have about 60% range of motion. I know I push myself too far and have high expectations and it is very frustrating to have an injury that haunts me. Like I said, I jump in too fast, like I want results yesterday. kate~trying to delurk
