I like to take a break in a hike and do some yoga or QiGong. I am not going to carry a mat on a hike, so I only do standing poses. It's hard to concentrate when ants or other insects are crawling on you!

A funny story: I was doing some QiGong, standing on an old mining road, deep in the forest. The road had a sharp bend, anything coming up could not see me, or me see them. I heard loud breathing, by more than one animal. Was it a mother bear with cubs, deer, elk, or moose? I stayed still, and 3 deer were about 10' from me, when we could see each other. We just watched each other for a few minutes, until they walked up the hillside.

I did yoga outdoors in my backyard for the first time today! I have an old piece of equipment -- a Lifeboard -- that I used to use when I lived in a partially carpeted apartment (and I just learned to use the room with hardwood floors ultimately!) It's been more than 5 years since I broke it out, my husband was going to toss it, I hid it in my garden hut/home office/workout room and voila, today was the perfect day to use it again! So nice to practice yoga next to my lemon tree

It works great and is such a nice change of pace. It was near the patio furniture https://www.homedepot.com/p/Camco-60...2805/206813600
Linda, this looks perfect! And totally affordable. Thank you so much!

I hope you find a set up that works well for you.
Haha! This is why I want to do it after morning runs! I love the idea of outdoor yoga at dusk but mosquitoes love me more! Thank you.

Pam, I always want to do yoga when we're in the Boundary Waters but the campsites are pretty much rock by the lakes and that for me says skull fracture more than peace! Thanks for sharing the sweet deer story. I love wildlife.

Tiffany, yay for lemon tree yoga! You husband was going to just throw out a $125 board??? Glad you saved it!

Thanks for your suggestions and feedback, everyone! I hope I will enjoy it as much as I think I will!

Oh bummer. The Home Depot one for $11 is out of stock. They show one that looks similar that's like $70!

Geez, that looks like the beach mats you buy for $5 in Hawaii. Those are made of some natural material almost like straw, instead of the polypropylene in the Home Depot one, but still they ought to be available cheap somewhere!

Here's the sort of thing I'm thinking of. This is a 4-pack for $29.99.

The polypropylene one from Home Depot... I have it and use it at the beach with the kids! The straw ones are nice too, just not as thick/strong but both will keep the yoga mat protected from sticky and icky things

I love doing some yoga on my back deck early in the morning as the sun rises. Until mosquito season ...

I was thinking of putting a sheet on the grass and my mat on top of it so I can throw the sheet in the washer. Or do I just need to get over it and get out there?? I probably think too much....
I have two dogs. One day I wanted to do yoga outside but I didn't want to lay my mat on the grass where they do their business. I came across some plywood that was in my garage. It works pretty good if you are only using it in your backyard and not taking it to a park since it doesn't fold and to big to carry around. It comes in different sizes at home depot or any lumber yard.

I would love to have the LifeBoard but out of my price range. During the summer they have free yoga at one the parks in our area every Saturday morning. The LifeBoard would be great to use there.
